I don't think this is going to turn into the EPIC curling iron thread (Best. Thread. Ever.) I found this wedged in between the frame and wheel well liner today. Truck is just over a week old. I can't see anything obvious when I pop the hood. Left over from production? Lynchpin to keep the whole truck from falling apart?

seriously it looks like a cap to protect the harness on the assembly line

at least you didnt find a 7/8 combination wrench ( 1992 f250 right on engine block under air cleaner)

Best I’ve found was a bent flathead screwdriver when taking the dash out of my olds, looked like some kind of home made trim remover. I’ve got it somewhere, always wondered if it was something someone jerry rigged to install the dashes

It looks like a protective cover from a wiring harness connector. We have those on our aviation connectors . The pins are small and densely packed. You take those caps off right before you hook the connections together so the pins don’t get bent.

I had the same plastic cap laying in the oil drain valley tray (over the front axle) when I did my 1st oil change. Went by the dealer and, like others have stated, it’s the cap that goes over the end of a wiring harness in the engine bay and is removed upon assembly. Like you, I was completely puzzled when it fell out as I was draining the oil. Before I went to the dealer, I probably spent an hour looking for where it came from.
