I bought a '21 F150 CPO a little over a year ago. I've currently got 33k miles on it, and it's still just under the 3yr/36k mile warranty.

I was looking into Ford Protect/ESP and went to Granger's website to buy a plan to extent my coverage. Paid for everything online, and got an email from them today saying:
1) They had to refund my money
2) You can't get ESP/Protect on CPO vehicles
3) They checked with Ford corporate to confirm that you can't get Protect/ESP on a CPO vehicle

That seems really odd to me. Why would anyone buy a CPO vehicle if you were SOL on getting an extended warranty?

Anyway, I called Ford corporate and talked to their ESP folks. They said it's not a problem to extend my coverage and that, to their knowledge, there's no reason a dealership can't, either. Of course, Ford wants to charge me $1,000 more than Granger.

I found Lomard Ford, where their website actually asks the question of whether your vehicle is CPO when shopping for a Protect/ESP plan. But I don't know anything about that dealership.

So I guess my questions are:
1)Does anyone here have experience getting Protect/ESP on a CPO vehicle?
2) Does anyone have experience with Lombard Ford? Are they legit, and is the ESP/Protect they sell the same as buying from Ford?

Not sure where to go with this, but plan to keep my truck for a long time and would really like to have a warranty for it.

This goes back a couple decades but I did get ESP or whatever it was called back then from Ford on a CPO Ford Focus.

I did notice in yesterday’s post from Granger that they mention Flood Ford or Ziegler as their top competitors with discounted ESP sales so I would check those two out.

This is troubling. My story is exactly the same as yours right down to the year. My build date is in March of '21, I bought the truck in January of '23 and I have ~25K on the odometer. What the heck is the problem with insuring a second owner's vehicle and what difference does it make whether it's the original purchaser or second owner?

All is well! Apparently this is a limitation of Granger Ford, where they don’t have the capability of replacing an existing ESP with a new one.

I called Zeigler Ford and talked to them. They were able to determine that my truck is CPO Gold, and also offered a discount if I paid in full.

I got 11 years/100k miles for $2,170 for Premiumcare. That’s $500 less than Granger—although, to be fair, part of the lower price is because Zeigler can deal with CPO vehicles.

It was a totally painless process and I got what I needed in about 15 minutes over the phone.

late to the game answer
i did it on 2 ford vehicles
one a 2012 edge we bought in 2018 with 50k miles on it
got a quote from zeigler for 3/36 bumper to bumper and the selling dealer honored their price plus did the inspection part for free

then when i extended it again, i went to my (at time servicing dealer) and they honored a quote and they covered the inspection thing for ford and i paid cash so its covered until 110 k miles and end of next year

the 2019 fusion i bought last year for grand child was also covered under a esp plan and my now servicing dealer honored the quote and paid the inspection

glad it worked out for you
