My pickup has been built and sitting since 11/23. Every so often I try to hit activate on the Ford Pass app and have always got the message saying please wait until you take delivery of your vehicle. Well Thursday night I tried it and now it pulls up a wait screen that says it can take up to 90 seconds to activate. Then after 5-10 minutes it pops up a error message, something along the lines of not having the authorization to activate and to try again later. Has anybody else seen this? I was really excited when this changed but Ford chat now says my new ETA window is another two plus weeks away.

If I recall correctly, someone in the vehicle has to hit the “accept” button to get it to fully activate. Most folks in your situation keep trying FordPass as they wait for their vehicle to get delivered, if only to get a gps signal for where it’s located. Every once in a while, the delivery driver will hit the accept button while they’re loading the vehicles, but mostly they’ve learned to deny it, since technically it’s not your vehicle yet.

Good luck on a swift delivery!

Activating Fordpass requires you to be in the vehicle to complete the process. It's best to wait until you are in the truck.

You have to activate from the truck

Can you imagine the security breach if you could activate a VIN without what amounts to 2-factor confirmation?

Oh the tomfoolery.
Nobody has a big enough battery to support the shenanigans.

Thanks for the replies.

I think I wasn't as clear as I should have been in my original post as to what I was asking. My question is why would the response change when I hit the activation button on a truck that, as far as I know, has been sitting in a lot for over two months? I assumed when I got the message saying wait until you take delivery was that it was in the transport mode and knew it couldn't be activated. Or did they make some changes to the Ford Pass app? Or did the battery die from sitting?

Thanks

FordPass App on Android updated late last night.
Not saying that has anything to do with it, but you never know what is fixed and what is broken everytime it updates. :)

You would have accounts on every one of our trucks - we would have to chase you down!

Why am I the first to be suspected? ?

Well, OK. I admit I have a long and distinguished list of VINs.
There's a couple up in the North East that would probably find more tempting than I could overcome.

I tried activating my FP after my truck was built and pending shipping for like 3 or 4 weeks. and then tried about every 5 or so days. I always received a timeout error bascially like you did.

Not to get your hopes up but when my truck was a few day's away from being shipped it no longer timed out and was wanting someone to hit the activate button on the screen of the truck.

Then a few day's latter someone canceled the request and I was back to the timeout screen. Next thing I know a few day's latter it showed up at Granger.

Just my experience. take that as you wish and Good luck.

My truck and Ford Pass app did the same thing. When it was very close to be delivered, the note about not having authorization or something like that and then went away. It went through a progression like you described. The last time I tried to activate it shortly before delivery, I didn't get any response back.

Some guys on the forum were able to activate their trucks because someone in the truck accepted the activation request at some point during the delivery process. They were then able to track the location of their truck periodically during shipping.

That issue means the truck is not yet completed and ready to ship. When that happens, you will click activate and get an activation pending notice

OK, so I see that Ford Pass requires being in the truck for activation and for good reasons.

But VINs seem to be assigned, more or less in days from the order.

Once I have that, what can I find out?

Just ordered my truck today.

The VIN is generally assigned once you have a scheduled build week. You will get a link in that email for the order tracker. You can also ask the dealer for a VinView.

I didn't bother with activating Ford Pass until I got home on Saturday.
