2024 Ford F-150 STX SuperCrew 5.0L V8
Had a question about the installation of the Ford molded splash guards, the rear pair in particular. I've got a new 2024 F-150 STX, and while I had no trouble putting the front pair of splash guards on, the directions for the rear set don't match what is on my truck. The part number is ML3Z16A550BA for the rear splash guard set. Looking at the photos attached, my truck does not have the second hole and Christmas tree insert that is specified to be removed in step one. Subsequently, I wouldn't be able to install the second metal clip as shown in step two once those inserts are removed.

Has anyone else ran into this on their 2024 F-150s? I was under the impression that this was a no-drill installation, but it looks like I would need to drill another hole in order to install the rear splash guard.

i dont wanna sound like a smart ass but did you check the actual metal to see if the hole was there? maybe they "cheapened out" of the other push pin and hole. might just need to drill a hole. looks like the metal is there

I did feel behind that lip and there is a hole in the metal, but I lost light last night with a storm rolling in so I couldn't mockup the splash guard to see if that hole fell in line with the hole on the splash guard. Hoping to today when the rain lets up. I was just curious if others ran into the same issue.

Strange, but I don’t think it’s necessary for a successful installation provided the rest of the fasteners are used. Is there a hole in the fender behind the plastic? You could use that & drill through the plastic, or use the flap as a template & drill through the existing mud flap hole.

Just know I wasn’t being a smart ass haha I would just drill the hole. Use the flap as a template. Again, ford did say they were going to use 1000 less parts so maybe that’s one of them lol

LOL no worries at all! That's what I'm probably going to do, just thought it was a little weird.

I have a 2024 XLT and I also installed the OEM splash guards. Yes there is no second hole drilled through the plastic trim piece. You could drill a hole, but with the wheel left on you would pretty much need a right angle drill to get a straight hole. I installed them without drilling the hole and see no issues at all with not drilling the hole and leaving that fastener off. The guards are very secure without that fastener and I see no reason that it's necessary.

That’s good to know, I appreciate it.

2024 Platinum and installed OEM guards last week. Confirmed no second hole in the plastic but the hole in the metal is there to accept the fastener clip and it does line up with the guard. I agree that it's probably unnecessary, but I figured installing the extra fastener couldn't hurt for a bit of extra insurance. While it is tight I was able to drill the hole through the plastic without any special right angle drill. The plastic trim pops off just enough to drill the hole needed at a steep angle. This shows an example of how the trim comes off at 2:37:

I did the same. I don't see any point in drilling another hole unless you have OCD tendencies.
