well, i didnt expect to see this.
ford hard roll up tonneau was installed by ford in late 08/22

havent had an issue until yesterday and it isnt even hot yet. maybe 80°?

anyone else have this tonneau installed especially in the warmer states? (in VA)

can anyone recall who makes this for ford? Retrax?

looks like this may carry a 2 year warranty through ford but i need to call and find out how this should be handled. would the OE manufacturer warranty this as well?

to those who say why dont i just fix it...ok, maybe, but why should i fix a less than 1yr old $1200+ tonneau?
also i did try getting it to stick and not only does it look bad it looks to be already trying to come back off.

I've seen that happen eventually on multiple brands.
I suspect it is inevitable in some climates and is a result of the limitations of what adhesive a manufacturer is willing to use.
(EPA is involved in these matters)

I'm sure there are adhesives that are more robust than what is used by the manufacturer.

From underneath that looks like a Bakflip Revolver X4. I can't remember the exact names but I think the updated version is the X4S? Or else the X4S may have an updated version with the same name. There is a couple youtube videos mentioning it. Look at about 14:30 here.

Regardless, they are known for having a couple durability issues including that issue with that strip which is just there to keep your hands off the hot metal. There is an update to it where they mechanically attach that strip without depending on adhesive. But if that was not out when you bought or Ford had the original version on the shelves to get rid of, you got the old one.

In my experience it's going to be hard to find an adhesive with both the strength and the heat rating needed to stand up to years of the sun beating down on it and softening it while on a part that's regularly handled and manipulated. Some may last longer than others but will still eventually give out. Each time you try to apply something new you're dealing with a little residue from the old stuff that's harder and harder to completely clean off.

I'm guessing it is made by bak industries... I had one from bak (x2?) that did the same thing. They warrantied it; I had to send them pictures of the issue and the serial number (near the front of underside on a sticker). The updated models have rubber that is formed to the metal segments instead of the (weakly) glued on felt liner

Thanks for the replies everyone. So I assumed this would be an issue just bc heat and adhesives don’t mix well though the other side seems fine. Wonder if I should reach out to Bak or if I need to visit ford first being it’s a ford accessory. Know ford they will throw some Elmer’s on it and call it good. Or push it back, tell me it’s good. I get home and it’s already sagging. Ugh

Try Truck Covers USA had it on my F450 and now on my F150. Also have it on a employee of my
F350. Very well built and strong to last.

I have the exact same issues. Crazywayne311, if the other side is not down.....it will be. I've tried many different adhesives and nothing is working. Unless I can find a fix, I'll be searching for a new roll up cover. The folding covers block the back window when folded up to the cab.

I love the cover! Roll up is the way to go to maximize the bed in my opinion. Roll up hogs some underneath space and fold up either blocks the rear window or has one panel down. So a hard roll up is nice to have. I’m sure I could figure out a way to fix it but it’s not even a year old

I would start with Ford with the only two acceptable options being a return for full refund or an updated cover.

I'm going to the Ford Dealer today to see what can be done. I like the one in the video that is found on this forum from eharri3.

Keep me updated. I would imagine ford won’t throw a new cover my way but offer to “fix” it. Whatever that means. Not sure the updated rubber can be retrofitted onto mine though.

I like these Bak rollup options and have considered one. Holding back because my Ruggedliner hard folder, though not optimized for convenience, lets in at most drop or two at the corners when force fed high pressure water in a car wash. Bone dry in just about any level of rain. I wonder what peoples' real world experiences are with these Bak hard roll up as far water tightness as I'm probably gonna pass if it permits anything more than a trickle at the corners. I hear different things on youtube.

i to through a touchless car wash every now and then. i would say its 99% water tight. the area where the tail gate and sides meet some what does get down in that spot but not hardly any. when i live we get a lot of hard rains out of the east. when park i usually have my rear facing west and have never really had any water get in.

Same thing happened to my Bak x4 on my old truck. Have the x4s now which eliminates that issue.
