Glad I saw this thread and the changes that have happened with Granger. I currently have family needs for 2 Explorers and will need to take a "second look" at Grangers pricing now. Undisputedly, they were the lowest for several year selling first at $50 over cost then down to $25 over cost. I'm more concerned at the silence since their representation here has always been active and forthcoming. They took a beating a while back on another issue, could be their silence is due to that whooping!
I bought mine from them Tuesday and they were the same price as Flood and Zeigler was a little higher. Flood would have actually been a little cheaper if I did echeck but I prefer CC in case there were issues.

I’m not sure they really have anything to say the admin fee is listed when you checkout so they are not hiding it. Plus it’s not uncommon to see those fees or even passing the credit card fees back on to the consumer.

Thanks, I understand and dont disagree with their admin fee. Also understand the CC fees, sign of the times. Before you know it, restaurants will be charging for water!

Went to pay a medical bill yesterday, 3% admin fee if I paid by debt card. They wanted a check...a check? Buy they too were adding a 3%, which is common, but they have to cover fees.

ESP’s are designed and sold to make the manufactures and administrators money. Priced so that total payments in from policy sales exceeds total payments out for repairs + administration costs. One is more likely to come out ahead by skipping the policy than saving money after paying for one.

Another important feature of self-coverage is NEVER having to argue or fight to get a claim honored, or worse, have one denied! Many stories regarding this malarkey. No thanks, I can pay if something comes up and get to choose what shop to use.

This is my humble opinion on all extended service contracts. Nothing personal against Granger or any other company.

All of the above is also true with regard to auto, home, and medical insurance.

Just curious, do you forego those and self-insure against those financial risks, too?

Every single thing you buy in life is making some one else money. Do we stop buying?

If you buy a Ford Authentic ESP you will never ever have a fight about a warranty repair determined necessary by a dealer.

People buy Ford ESP warranties (IMO) for peace of mind, not to get ahead. JMO

Many of us here had excellent service and that 'issue' only ever had one side of the story presented....

Could also be due to this.... Granger Ford Passing of Chip

Understand, In April I bought a used warranty from Granger with no surprises and or issues. I'm more concerned about the silence from a vendor, yet again here.

If you take the long time to read that post from that one buyer you will see only his side of the long tale. If however you piece together what really happened you will see that there is error on his part that he initially refused to acknowledge, and probably still does.

That thread was basically just a rant because he did not get his way. Only after he started to follow the warranty instructions that were given to him from the start, did he start to get resolution.

I for one do not want to see companies get into pissing matches on a forum. YMMV.

End of the day OP if you're not happy about a private company trying to make a slight profit off providing a service so they can continue to grow and pay their employees then don't buy it. In fact for that matter don't buy anything from anywhere and go live off-grid as a hermit in the Alaskan wilderness since every single retailer or service provider charges service or admin fees to the customer at one point or another.

Medical -My company pays a large chunk of the offered health insurance plan premium. My contributions into a pre-tax HSA saves us whatever percent tax bracket we are in on all out-of-pocket medical expenses. Much of the balance in this account can be invested in the market to earn more money tax free. After retirement we will tap into the Medicare funds we have mandatorily paid into for 5 decades. Doing anything other than this would not make financial sense. It also doesn't relate well to a vehicle ESP.

Home and auto – Insurance deductibles are set very high to save money on premiums. My only concern is covering huge losses. Not paying premiums for any potential small losses makes sense for us. I understand that everyone’s situation varies.
