Anyone know why? I have to disconnect call, turn off car play (or Wi-Fi) to get the camera to work, and then call back.

Makes sense. For the record, I was parked the first few times I tried and discovered it. :)

It’s a safety thing - people trying to FaceTime while driving is the last thing I ever want to see on the road. Apple has it disabled, it’s not a Ford restriction.
there should be a way to click “ I am a passenger “ so an actual real passenger can engage in a real FaceTime video while the driver drives.
They do this for Sync 4 navigation screen typing after all.

I still stand by my original opinion of NO absolutely not! If the passenger wants to make a FaceTime call they can hold their phone in front of their own face and make call - there is no reason whatsoever the driver needs to be able to see the screen on the center console.

Bumping this up, so as not to create a new thread. I happened to try a facetime call today, while connected to carplay. The odd part is that I could see the person I am talking to, but they couldn't see me.

I was under the impression that neither end would work. At a minimum it seems backwards, shouldn't I be the one not able to see the person instead of the other way around?

Is there any workaround or setting for this? (to allow the other party to see me?)

This is the Way.

Sure, its hands free, but its not 100% eye's free.
It is a potential driver distraction and everyone values life (and time) differently.

Honestly everything is a potential driver distraction. For that matter, looking up at a light turning red or a stop sign could distract you from a small child crossing directly in front of you.

That said, I finally am enjoying carplay to some extent. But I often field calls from my daughter while in the car, so that everyone in the office doesn't get to listen to our conversation. Its not a big deal to turn on and off bluetooth, or to even go into general settings to carplay and turning it off from there.

I was just hoping for an easier way. That and I found it odd that apple or ford would allow the distracting part happen. I could see my daughter, she just couldn't see me. Then again I never shifted out of drive, so I am unsure if that would have turned off the video of her.
