They didn't open 22 orders yet, that's only for the super duty models. There's been no announcement of the 21 MY orders closing and 22 starting for the 150 yet.

Also, if you think the chip problem is only hitting Ford, you need to read more news. It's affected EVERY auto manufacturer, even Toyota (though too a much lesser extent) and pretty much every other industry.
Toyota NA operations have yet to shut down or slow production. Hopefully with the future increase in semiconductors this will be short lived for other manufacturers.

j/k - yeah, seriously - I am waiting to order sometime late next month. Trying to wait it out to see what happens with the rust issue and other recalls, etc. Whether it ends up being a '21 or '22, it's all good. When we bought our 2013 subaru, it was July of 2012. That was a crazy early release date.

They haven’t shut down, but there was a rumor that the new Tundra is going to be delayed. Every other manufacturer has had impacts though. Honda, VW, Ford, GM, FCA. It’s also affecting other industries as well and most reports are that it’s going to be 2022 at the earliest until things start to get back to normal, ‘23 until the supply chain fully recovers.

I ordered my Lariat 500A on 4/13, had a VIN two days later with a scheduled build date of 5/17. There are also other customers on the flow sheet at my dealer that ordered in February and received their VIN and build date on the same day as mine. It's really all over the place right now with the chip shortage, certain options delaying production, etc.

My dealer didn't require ANY "deposit".

They know damn well that they will have people lined up out the door to buy the gem I built. Likely willing to pay over invoice!

I think I WILL go to another dealer tomorrow and order a 2022 just to see what happens.

At this point, I have nothing to lose...
If you have a dealer that pulls that on you - you have grounds for a lawsuit. To avoid all that, send them an email asking if they need to give them a token deposit on that SPO. If they respond saying it's not necessary, then you have what you need to establish a transaction in good faith. Or you can just drop off a check for $100 against the SPO and they're not able to do anything without your consent. Any dealer that pulls that crap is not a dealer I'd want to do business with - these are extraordinary times (Walmart on BlackFriday bad? Not yet!)

Fortunately (and maybe unfortunately perhaps) I ordered my truck from a small town dealer and this is the 3rd new vehicle I've purchased from them.

They wouldn't sell it out from under me.

But if I refused delivery for any reason, I'm sure they would be just fine with that.

Ordered my 2021 Platinum on 12/03 and finally got a VIN in March. Original build date was 4/5 but that got delayed. My new build date is 5/17! Smoked Quartz 4X4 with no moon roof and also the spray bed liner, roll-up a cover, under seat storage and work station. I guess I will get it in June or July
