I thought you did not get a build week and VIN until they confirmed the parts available, which is why some trims like the Platinum models were going so long without being scheduled.
You’re not supposed to get a window sticker till parts are avail. But even that’s out the window now as the last weeks trucks rolling off the line are ‘waiting on chip hold’

its A huge mess

I’m confused as to why Ford is even taking orders for trucks they don’t seem to be able to produce. I’m not confident I’ll get a truck this year based on some of the stories around here.
Because you're taking a buyer out of the market for a competitor's truck. I'm sure manufacturers have no issues taking orders from people willing to wait 6+ months or more.

Not exactly true. My order isn’t binding and I could easily end up with a different truck if it takes Ford forever to build the one I ordered. Not like my dealer would care because they could sell it on the lot in a matter of days.

If Ford straight up told you that you couldn't place an order, you'd immediately look elsewhere.

If they take your order and you end up hearing nothing for two months, most people are likely to continue waiting for that sunk cost fallacy deliciousness.

See signature: I’m still early in my ordering process, but I do already have some frustration - especially after reading about delays, followed by more delays, from other F-150 fans on this forum. I get it - Ford can’t build the most popular truck in America in an environment where they cannot acquire the raw materials in necessary quantities (e.g. computer chips).

That said, Ford’s lack of transparency is disappointing, IMO. They should be out front, controlling the narrative: Here’s where we’re experiencing delays, these are the most impacted models/ trims/ accessories, here’s what we’re doing to improve these processes, etc., we’re committed to bringing the greatest customers of the most popular American truck company the best product as soon as possible, etc., etc. Nutshell: Be kind to your loyal fanbase.

Of course I want my brand new, expensive toy as soon as humanly possibly, Ford; but if you’re upfront, honest, and transparent, then I’m in for the long haul.

More importantly, though, my growing frustration isn’t rooted specifically in the chip delay fiasco. Mixed in with the lack of communication from Ford are the multiple other irritating quirks that have me questioning my faith in this company at times: A 2022 Build & Price tool delayed, yet once released it’s still filled with incorrect information and inaccurate prices; customer service representatives and salesmen with limited knowledge of the trucks they’re selling (most don’t know about 7K-lbs towing limit w/o tow package); the lack of technical information (what’s different between 17T and 53A); etc.

Buying a brand new car/truck should be super exciting, whatever your price point. I’m not feeling that right now. Instead I’m filled mostly with anxiety that (a) my truck will be delayed longer than Stranger Things S4, and (b) I mistakenly didn't order some insignificant prerequisite component that’ll result in a key accessory not getting installed.

I placed my order for a 2022 502A Lariat in Space White with the FX4 package and just about every option available on 12/18 through Dexter at Koons Woodbridge. Last night for the 3rd week in a row I have gotten an email from Ford notifying me that my build has been delayed by a week. Is anyone else experiencing this? Was originally given 3/7/2022 build week the latest email is 3/28/2022.
Yep, I have a space white 502a ordered since 10/8, all space white trucks come from the KC plant. My first build week was 1/17, and I‘ve been pushed out a week at a time until the week of 2/7 now. Hate to tell you this, but I just saw on the Blue Oval Forums that the KC plant will be shut down the week of 2/7 as of now. So I guess I‘m not getting a truck built next week either…

I agree with all of that. I’m sure the truck will be fantastic once it finally appears. So far every step of the process has been pretty rough other than actually placing an order with a dealer. That went pretty smoothly.

I don’t even mind waiting for it. My issue is the timeline I was given by my dealer is nowhere close to accurate. He said 12-16 weeks for delivery and it looks like I won’t even get the build scheduled inside of that window. I spoke with someone at Ford yesterday and they can’t offer any information about my order.

We planned to order another Ford for my wife. I am far less excited about that idea right now.

DETROIT – Ford Motor is cutting production next week of several key products due to an ongoing global shortage of semiconductor chips.

The automaker on Friday confirmed production downtime next week for the Ford Bronco and Explorer SUVs; the Ford F-150 and Ranger pickups; the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover; and the Lincoln Aviator SUV at plants in Michigan, Illinois, Missouri and Mexico due to the parts shortage.

The automaker also is cutting some productions of the F-150 and Ford Transit cargo vans at plants in Michigan and Missouri.

The cuts signal the chip shortage that devastated the auto industry last year continues to linger. They come a day after Ford significantly missed Wall Street’s earnings expectations due to lower-than-expected production caused by the supply chain issues, causing shares to tumble 9.7% on Friday.

Yep. My 3/7 build date got licensed to 3/14. This is ok for me as I wouldn’t mind waiting longer.

I place my order on 12/16/21 for an XLT 302A 6.5 bed Powerboost with most available options. My dealer rep told me, when we were putting the order together, that it might be August 2022 or later before I should really expect delivery. Surprisingly to me, Ford immediately confirmed my order, & sent me a VIN & a scheduled production date for the week of 2/28/22 in early January. I just got an email a few days ago pushing my production date out until the week of 3/14/22. I will be pleasantly surprised if I get delivery by early May. Good Luck to all who are waiting for their truck!
