45,000 Miles Later, Our Long-Term Ford F-150 Hybrid Still Rules

https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2021-ford-f-150-hybrid-long-term-update.html

When we added a F-150 hybrid for our long-term test fleet in 2021, we planned to keep it for about a year and 20,000 miles. We typically sell our long-term cars once we're through with a year of testing, but Big Red (the nickname I've given it) turned out to be so gosh-darn capable, usable and idiot-proof, we simply haven't been able to part ways with it.

Amazing difference between the opinion of an opinion gatherer (Consumer Reports) and that of an outfit that actually purchases and lives with the vehicle.

I'm sure Edmunds is aware that they are speaking well of the most unreliable truck sold in America? ????

I love my 2022 Lariat 502a 4x4 PB. It is a total pleasure to drive. My wifes car is a 2024 Lexus 350NXh, gets 34 MPG and is also a pleasure to drive but for just running around, we hop in the truck. Even though my area for driving is nothing but stops, ramp up to higher speed for a minute and stop again, and this does not utilize the hybrid much at all, we still love driving it around town for errands. Of all the trucks I have owned since 1980's this is the one that would make me cry if I had to give it up.

Plenty Wyoming miles on my XLT... 3 Wyoming winters under the belt... only real issue was that OEM battery & when it was replaced early, no further problems... Virtually flawless.

The PB is fundamentally a kludge built from reassembled off the shelf parts with some borderline inexplicable complexity thrown in. Despite its humble origin, it is a great truck. I would've waited for a few more years had I gotten the chance, but I am extremely happy with the truck.

Big picture, the PB's best attributes are going to become even better in terms of power, mileage and reliability using extant tech with a ground up design. The changes that we'll see over the next 5-10 years in ICE vehicles will outstrip what we saw over the past 50 years, and I think a big part of that is that BEVs showed consumers what they were missing out on with stagnant, planned-obsolescence, drip-fed-improvement engineering. If we demand it, we will get 40 MPG 800 lb-ft trucks with 1200 mile ranges. I think that's amazing.
