2H is the default setting in Normal mode, so 4A shouldn't remain engaged when the mode defaults to Normal after a restart. The programmers got lazy.

There are far more settings than Drive Modes that should remain where owners last set them.

No, I think this was intentional. If you select 4A manually (not tied to an automatic shift for drive mode), it should stay in 4A through key cycles. Many people stop more than 1 place and drive for days on snowy roads, or stop frequently when off roading. It would be incredibly annoying to constantly have the transfer case shifting back and forth.

I agree that it should remain in the last mode selected; both the drive mode and 2x or 4x setting. In my opinion the current programming is half-baked.

Id like to have it that way as well. I think the EPA is to blame. As I understand it, they require the vehicle to default to some drive mode in order to use that drive mode for mpg testing. Otherwise, they’d test in all the modes that it can default to and give it a rating based on the mode that does the worst.

My last vehicle would stay in eco or comfort mode if you left it. But would default back to comfort if you turned it off with sport, smart, or custom selected

I would also wonder how much of this changing back or not staying with what has been selected is to do with either EPA, warranty and or lawyers being involved. Also, no matter how much Ford tries, it will not please everybody with their decisions. Personally, I have no issue changing drive modes when I get in my truck, or for that matter, making any changes. Just saying.

My 2017 Corvette and 2020 Hyundai Palisade default to last mode used. My 2016 Camaro did the same. I used Sport mode in all three. All three had at least 2 modes (to include Eco) that achieved higher MPGs.

I came from a Hyundai product (Genesis). And I’m pretty sure they will only stay in smart, eco, or comfort. If sport is selected when you turn the vehicle off, it’ll revert to comfort

It’s a rainy day, I set the drive mode to slippery and head out.
I was reading the owner’s manual thinking surely there is a setting that will fix this issue. My Inifini and Acura’s did/do remember the drive mode selection between trysts

The manual repeats this Slippery Mode warning for both 4x2 and 4x4 modes:
——
Note: Do not use this mode when driving on dry pavement. This could cause driveline bind up and damage the system depending on the four-wheel drive mode selection. See Four-Wheel Drive (page 260).
—-

The tech writing team likely did this portion of the Owner’s Manual on Friday at 4 pm before a Holiday Weekend. Why this blurb is repeated on 4x2 Slippery Mode is a mystery. I needed 4x4 Slippery mode due to extreme icing conditions.

Does anyone else feel the Drive modes should stay where you (The Driver) last set it?
Yes!
No price on Amazon. Not sure I want to have a 20-40 minute chore to take the truck into the dealer or risk having some officious tech "dislike" seeing a gizmo pigtailed into the soft underbelly.
Would be a great FORScan tweak.
I started a "feature request" thread a while back and this is the #2 most popular feature request.
