The nav has a internal database and works as long as there is GPS signal. I have installed the 12" Sync 4a into a 2019 F150 that does not have any connectivity and the nav works fine. I can enter destinations and look up places. You loose the online search ability but you will have GPS anywhere you get GPS signal.

If you have having GPS with the red circle you are having a Antenna issue. You can see your current GPS signal strength in the Diag menu. Switch to Radio source. Hold seek forward on the steering wheel and at the radio controls on the dash at the same time and hold down.

You could have a bad splitter. The GPS antenna is Tri band. It is the antenna for Cell diversity, SAT radio and GPS> They use a splitter for the SAT and GPS.

The nav has no dependance on cellular at all. In fact you are supposed to be able to retain limited nav function if you choose to not retain the connected nav after the first three years they include. The trucks that do not have the 3 year will have to continue to pay to be able to enter destinations.
