Can someone tell me if the tow haul package has the third leaf spring?

I currently have a 22 screw with max tow but I see the 24s now have the option of the 3.73 gears on the 5.0 without max tow. If not does the fx4 have 3 leafs?

basically wondering because max tow seems to be a rarity these days and I don’t want to order a truck since dealers have an abundance of 24s.

You have to order the max tow axle it is a separate option , I would assume that gets you the third 3 … I have not seen enough in person to check.

Found a couple I want with 5.0 3.73 and max tow again. 302a. Looks like I’ll have to sacrifice my b&o for towing.

I tow a 6,500lb camper several times a year.

To add confusion, the non-Max Tow PBs also get a 3 leaf spring because they have a #7350 GVWR. This is less useful becuase the PB is a chunky boy.

Does the max tow with the 7100lb gvwr mean higher payload? Its higher than my 22 screw with max tow.

I don't think it does. My payload is 1616 lbs on a 502A Lariat with 7100 lb GVWR with no moonroof or Fx4. XLT should be a little higher payload.

What’s the point of the higher gvwr then @Ford Motor Company ?

Yeah, all PBs have them but they've also used the magic wand to up them to #7400 GVWR now.

Yes! But do you need it? I just went through this. I share this because I always thought if you tow anything you did. Not true.

All my past trucks have had Max Tow. My 24' I just picked up has the 3:73 rear end with 5.0. The heaviest I tow is 6200 lb. After extensive research that's not enough to need the max tow package. I have tow /haul. Without it my truck still has a towing capacity of a little over 10,000 lb. I had such a hard time with the different packages when choosing off the lot that this is the one option I decided to give up. By going from a Lariat to an XLT I also added substantial payload as well.

I wanted the black appearance plus package to get the 20" wheels. It's a bonus that all of these come with a 36 gallon tank now (minus PB).

When I hooked up my boat to my Lariat it's squatted. With this truck there is still a rake. Only have 2 leafs not like max tow trucks with 3.....makes me wonder.

Someone didn't tell my truck that. Factory sticker is 1460. I've seen lariats closer to 1600lbs.

Hmmm yeah I was nervous about having squat because with my 22 max tow. It sits level with very minor rake still on my 6500lb camper. My trucks leveled though.

im planning on leveling my 24 which is why im thinking I may need that third leaf spring?

The XLT max tow trucks weigh more. Another factor. I was looking at two identical trucks. I gained almost 70 pounds of payload. The way I look at it I'll add the 3rd leaf later if need be. My almost loaded out Lariat was a horrible tow/ haul vehicle even For "light duty". Payload is ? part of the equation.

Going back to XLT to do truck stuff. The sunroof and leather is nice, but comes at a cost. People will get mad at that comment, but true. Unfortunately if you want all that stuff and work/ tow/ Hall you need a super duty. Trying to get best of both worlds. Plus if you have seen my other comments my 23' was junk. Hope this 24' does better.

Use the link above to enter the VIN and get the payload plus other towing information. Extremely helpful when you're comparing vehicles while shopping.
