Funny, I was trying to connect to my trucks WiFi last weekend on a drive up to Tahoe, and it seems I couldn’t connect to the WIFI and stay connected to CarPlay at the same time. Everytime I tried it would connect to the WiFi but then drop the CarPlay connection. Sucks!
It's a limitation of the phone. Needs to be able to connect to 2 wifi APs simultaneously. Sync should be able to be programmed to connect to the truck's wifi, set the gateway address as the wifi hotspot while carplay/AA connects directly to sync's IP for streaming. Really silly this problem exists considering the solution is quite basic networking configuration. I can't see the AA/ACP bandwidth being anything of note. Also no reason for sync to not serve up a DG route for IP transit given sync is already talking to the modem.

I have a suspicion this is due in part to the vehicle's native connectivity features being set at a different priority rate than the vehicle's hotspot data, especially given the hotspot has varying levels of priority (still not difficult to do though using various schemes). A lot of people aren't aware that you can buy into higher priority levels of cellular service, let alone that data types and destinations also have a priority level. Funny enough, outside of voice, one of the highest public traffic priority types is those going to known speedtest servers. You can sometimes catch this in action as traffic speed will ramp up during a speedtest vs just starting out at a high data rate. So long as a VPN isn't used, the service provider's hardware is really good at shaping traffic appropriately.

If I had the time 20yr old me did with similar responsibilities, I'd probe the system w/ various techniques gathering much more information on it. It'd be awesome to be able to do a MitM attack on it and insert a route for internet bound traffic via the middle device that's connected to truck hotspot.
Just blew 45m reading some papers on attack vectors.
Time to step over this hole :ROFLMAO:
