My Lariat PB 157 FX4 is being built next week. I am planning on a level, wheels, tires, bedliner, and bed cover. Is it better to do this through the dealer or use a local custom shop? Are dealers typically competitive on parts?
Never, never take it to the dealer for aftermarket anything. You might think about having it all done t once in order to get the aftermarket shop give you a package deal. If you don't than do the next bet thing and use the same aftermarket shop for everything you do.
I had my dealer work directly with Line-X for my bed liner. The dealer actually got a better price than I would have. I did however visit the local Line-X shop before it was installed so I could see and feel the different grades on liners available. After delivery, I'd definitely go back to Line-X directly if I needed anything. The local shop seems to be well run & I'd be comfortable doing any future business there.
I just ordered four tie downs and four anchors for my bed at a cost of $85 from a vendor. At the dealership the quoted price was $177. Says it all. Turns out the side bed tie downs don't fit yet they claim to be for a 2021. Really don't need them with the top mounted ones installed.
I hadn’t even thought of having my dealer do anything aftermarket during my buying process, then they mentioned the items get taxed at the rate the truck does (1-2% less) and can be rolled into the 0% for 72. So I am
now shopping the dealers prices around while I wait for the truck to come in. Question now is the convenience of having it all done by the time I drive it home worth several hundred dollars more?
