It's hard to prepare for a truly bad dealership.. Keep your trade in keys in your pocket and REALLY LOOK at all the paperwork before you sign a single page. Don't be rushed or lose your temper. Remember too that salesman AND managers actually take classes on how to 'close' a difficult customer so be prepared for a lot of psychological tricks. Actually lying to you is very possible and what is said about numbers means nothing.. What is on the paperwork is what's real. Some will try to get a rebate you are entitled too assigned to the dealership. So check ALL the numbers.

Here is a little story from my last experience buying my current truck. My new Fords are all A-Plan purchases, via my S-I-L. What should have been a 30 minute or less transaction stretched into almost 2 hours due to the freakin' sales manager.

Here is the interesting part. Within 2 weeks I received a check for $1,000. I wasn't expecting it, but I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. On the Check was written "Built For Growth AXZD-Plan Cus." The check was from Ford Motor Company - North American Sales Accounting.

About 2 weeks after that, I got a call from the sales manager asking if I got a check for $1,000 from Ford. I said, "Yes I did." He then said that check was supposed to be his, and would I send it to him. I didn't say this but I was thinking he could kiss me where sun never shines. Ultimately, I kept the money.

But it was the last straw. I go to another dealer for service, and would use the new dealer if I needed to buy a new vehicle.

Dang that is some brass ones there to call a customer and say the customer check is really his or the dealership. The sad thing is how many times they do something like this, and how many times they succeed in ripping off the customer.

In my world you see crap like this a lot. This probably sounds familiar to some as it is a becoming a common practice. You go to an in network doctor for some medical service and the cost is $1000 off the street. But since they are a participating "in network" doctor they must accept the insurance carriers negotiated fee for the members. That might be $400. However you get a bill from the doctors facility for the balance (Balance Billed) saying you owe $600. If you call them up about this knowing the rules they will say, "Oh that is a billing error from the system and you can disregard it", they know they got caught but how many people do not catch it and just pay. Shady to say the least.

A lot of these practices were outlawed in the ACA however sadly the ACA has been whittled down little by little to a fraction of what it started as.
