So I have a 2021 Lariat with the power-extending running boards. I've added some blue running board lights to light the boards on entering/exiting. Right now, they are wired so that they light whenever the door lights are on... i.e. when the door is open or the truck is locked/unlocked.

However, I'd like them to be illuminated whenever the running boards are extended (for example, approaching the truck when the running boards extend, and to not darken when the doors shut but waiting until the power boards retract).

Has anyone tried something like this and know if there is any circuit I can tap into that receives power when the boards are extended but does not when they retract?

Thanks!

I think I'd be OK getting the lights to tap into whatever is running the puddle lighting on the bottom of the mirror, but haven't been able to find information on what wire colors those are.

I was talking to a mechanic who warned me against doing anything electrical because the Body Control Module will see differing voltages and/or power draw and start acting screwy. How do you tap in without creating issues from voltage or current variations? Or was he misinformed?

I would want to know something along those lines too.

I have a truck cap that's about to go on, and I wanted to add 2 lights on each side, to be controlled by the Zone lighting. I would like the spots on the mirrors, and 2 work\area lights on the truck cap to be controlled by the same software switch.
