2021 Lariat 2.7L here. Over the past 2 weeks, since first switching on 4A for winter driving (I use 2wd in summer) , approximately 1 of 4 times I start the truck, I'm getting a "check 4x4, service soon" message on the dash cluster and it goes to 2wd. The Ford app gives a Powertrain Malfunction alert. Next few times 4A likely works, repeat. When it's in 4A it seems to run as expected, and when in 2wd it seems fine as 2 wheel. I tried pulling OBD codes and nothing. I tested 4wd Low and it works fine, just 4A and 4H have the occasional issue. Feels like it may be a software or sensor issue.
There are a couple other threads with similar issue but not sure if any quite match (one is Powerboost battery related).
Anyone have any idea on this? Also I'm outside the 3year full warranty but still within the 5year powertrain warranty. I'm hoping this will be covered by warranty but expect that might be a battle, although it does clearly state Powertrain malfunction in the app.
