Got my first warning light today saying Check 4x4 with a wrench icon and stability control light. I can’t shift into 4H or 4L or select any drive modes. From doing a little sniffing around it seems like it might be an IWE. The weird thing is I was driving around all day for 10+ hours on normal paved roads and parked the truck at home. I then got in the truck 5 minutes after returning home to pull the truck forward a little bit and the light came on immediately after I restarted the truck. I tried disconnecting the battery but it’s still on. Truck drives normal and the last time I shifted into 4WD was about a month ago.

I guess I will be calling the dealership on Monday. The truck is 2 months old with 14,000 miles so whatever broke didn’t last very long ?

Just shut the truck off for a bit and restart! 99% of the time these little glitches go away!!

Disconnecting the 12 volt battery is not enough. The small 12volt battery must also be disconnected to reset the computer. The small battery is a "keep alive" battery for the memory circuits.

I had this off the lot, it was the IWE. Warranty repair fixed it. Try to reset the code and cycle 4wd to rwd a few times. If it doesn’t come back it was a glitch. Otherwise dealer for warranty

Is there another 12v battery somewhere that I’m missing? For reference I have the 3.3 N/A V6

What did you do to reset the code? I don’t have Forscan yet, just wondering if there’s another way to do it that I’m unaware of.

It was Forscan. I had a generic bluetooth odbii code reader from my bmw and got the forscan lite app for iphone at the time.

The Powerboost's have a small battery under the pax rear seat. It is there to maintain voltage during an engine start off the 12V battery.
However, it also means if you're trying to reset the computer, you have to disconnect both.

Im self employed and bought this as my work truck, for reference my other car is an older Mercedes S-Class that only gets about 2k miles in an entire year put on it.

Oh gotcha it’s a Powerboost thing that makes sense. I thought I was missing another battery somewhere ?

Oh nice I like the sound of going that route rather than having to get a laptop just to run software for my truck. I do everything on an iPad and my phone and haven’t had a computer in years.

I’ll have to look into some of the differences on what the app version is capable of compared to the computer version. How do you like it?
