Decided to trade in my 2016 5.0 XLT with the six speed, for a 2021 XLT with the 3.5 EB and of course the 10 speed. I cannot drive this EB smooth to save my life! It's very rough in and out of 4th depending on how much gas you are giving it. It clunks into gears and lurches occasionally, sometimes it feels like the rear diff slams a bit while in 2wd and makes you think you ran something over. I have cleared the adaptive transmission tables. Going to maybe take it in to the dealer and make sure all bulletins and PCM updates fit the transmission have been done. Truck has around 60K miles on it. Is it just me or is this the reality of the 10 speed and turbo lag etc...

Make sure that the ATF is not low in the transmission. Two trucks I bought were low as the transmissions required x.5 pints and the prep person put in X and did not want to open an additional can of ATF.

A change out (without anything else being done) of the ATF would be worthwhile to be sure that the fluid has not been "burned". Transmission "cleaning" often can damage seals so not a good idea.

This is from a web source:

"Shortly after purchase, I noticed the transmission shifting harshly, skipping gears and a clunking noise. I reported this to the dealer where it was purchased, they did the standard reset of the adaptive learning. I returned a few weeks later reporting the same issues. I was told, this is normal behavior. They also stated they receive 20 to 30 complaints per month about the transmission. I find this incredible that Ford refuses to acknowledge the problem with this transmission when it's been happening since 2018. I see complaints on forums and other internet sites. I have talked to other F150 owners who report similar problems. I am hopeful the latest class action lawsuit will force Ford to own up to this and provide remedy to owners. "

Also clear your tranny tables.
I just did this recently (only 20,000 miles) and the truck has much better response and shifting. I had to look probably 2 or 3 times to make sure I was not in Sport Mode, it was that significant a change.

Depending on the build date there are probably several PCM updates that have been released and not installed in the truck.

The early trucks got much better after the updates.

Send me vin and I can tell you if there are any updates

The transmission in my 22 EB has always been extremely smooth since day one but I have under 10K on the truck
Good luck

The transmission in my 22 has always been basically perfect as well, unlike my 2020 10 speed. At most once in awhile pulling up to a light I can hear the slightest clunk but can't feel it, and that's only when the radio is off since it's not very loud. I would say bring it to the dealer and see if there any updates in the shift strategy as a 2021 could have been they were still working out programming quirks

2021 XLT Screw 5.0,4x4,302Asport,
The prior gen V8/six speed is considered by many the best variant of the F150.

Suggest you ensure the problem is in the vehicle history and get an ATF fluid drain and refill.
