Changed behavior on startup - OTA related?

Most recent OTA was 6.5.0
(Sync version 23291_Product, Rev 1049).

Recently noticed two specific changes in behavior at startup and wondering if others have seen them and if they are related to recent OTAs. And a brief rant at the end as a bonus.

On startup, the truck is now consistently turning on the A/C every time. (Outside ambient temp is high 50s/low 60s, temperature control set for 64degs, which I almost never change.) It’s really annoying getting hit with a blast of refreshingly cold air. Anybody else seen this?

On startup, the default screen is now always the settings screen…it used to consistently startup on the CarPlay screen. (Neither is acceptable - it should startup on whatever screen was last displayed). It is also taking noticeably longer to start CarPlay than it used to. I suppose those two might be related. I haven’t changed any settings, although my iPhone updated itself the other night.
Anybody else seen this either?

Again, I can’t relate either to the specific timing of an OTA update.

Which brings me to my rant: Is anybody else tired of the platitudes that substitute for an actual description of what each OTA includes? “We’re working hard to make your experience better!”
You know what would make my experience better? An actual list of what actually changed. It would be great if I could look at the OTA history to see if either of these behaviors had been changed.

Rant>>off. For now. I’ll leave a rant about the lack of a correlation between the s/w version and the OTA number for another day. Or the fact that FordPass is still showing an OTA from last October as the most recent while the truck itself is reporting several levels beyond that. (Yeah, I’ve updated the FordPass app).

I had the settings screen on startup behavior after my OTA update last week. Lasted a day or two, but now doesn’t seem to do it anymore.

Agree the descriptions are pointless. They probably don’t want us to know the dumb stuff they are fixing. :D

I started getting the settings screen at startup after 6.5.0
It went away after 6.8.0 which has nothing to do with the center screen. Now it is always on the last screen used. Weird I know. :)

Jesse mentioned he did a full reset and that fixed it for him but I didn't want to do all that.

Possibly there is something in the asbuilt that gets messed up and fixed when it restored defaults again after 6.8.0 but that is just speculation on my part. ?‍♂

So there's some hope that it'll straighten itself out eventually. Truthfully though, the AC coming on every time I start the truck is much more annoying.

Me remote start isn’t available after this latest OTA. Also now is on AM radio when I start up.

I'm not sure it is 100% OTA related as my truck has done this at random it's whole life.

Some days it's in settings, some days CarPlay won't connect, Some days CarPlay will connect but it only plays through the headrest speakers(B&O Unleashed). Along with all other mentioned anomalies.

Seems to me Ford's base software is no better than early computers, this is my speculation and I really don't know how it works, but it seems that some days when it gets powered up the computer doesn't start loading its code from line 1, and if it starts anywhere but line 1 something is messed up and the only way to fix it is to power down and restart again.

The only thing I've seen consistent from OTA updates, is that the instrument cluster display always resets MyView screens back to the factory default of 4 specific screens and oil pressure gauge, so I always have to go in and re-enable all the other trip, tire pressure etc..and change my oil pressure to boost pressure. Annoying yes, but somewhat expected.

I think you’re right - Ford’s naivety in managing and implementing large software projects this is on full display (Ford isn’t alone in this).
Ford doesn’t seem to have a coherent process for:
- design validation,
- design debug,
- configuration management,
- revision control.
- bug tracking
- systems engineering.
These are all basic software engineering tasks.
You can kinda see how it happened: Ford (nor any other auto maker) could not possibly afford the time nor massive expense in spinning up software development processes and software for these complex systems from a standing start.
So they went out and purchased the various modules from different vendors - Bosch, Tesla maybe and a raft of other vendors. Apparently that’s why we ended up with two slightly different lane keeping / lane centering systems that don’t work exactly the same.
So after buying this bag o’parts from whoever was selling what they needed, Ford’s job would be to integrate the whole sticky tarball and sell it to us.
My understanding is that in some cases Ford doesn’t even have control over bug fixes, but instead reports the bug to the vendor and hopes that the vendor fixes it. And in fact Ford may not even have access to the code at all. Of course that vendor, who doesn’t have visibility into the whole system, may well end up screwing up something else, which Ford may or may not detect in its patch validation process.
So you can see the problem. Those of us with PBs with crappy battery problems should be glad the battery gets charged at all.
Anyway, I think that’s more or less what’s going on. Don’t expect Ford to get better at this anytime soon … it’s gonna require a massive investment in software engineering to bring some of this stuff in house and make it all play together.

Similar issue with this update, every time it starts, it defaults to the settings menu, and I've been unable to correct it. I've had more issues with this 23 502A than my 2019 or 2011 ever did.

After the rear camera button issues I turned off OTA updates. Ford does not fully test its software. I’ll get updates from the dealer if I choose.

Read an article a while back explaining the issues Ford grapples with. Like mentioned above components come with embedded firmware which didn’t used to be an issue. In the newest vehicles though providing updates and improvements means corralling several manufacturers into doing updates that align with desired changes and that marry with changes in other systems often with code that differs from those other systems. Not making excuses for them it just seems we are at that pivot point in auto manufacturing where systems are not yet integrated enough to provide seamless updates that work and are timely. I just hope Ford doesn’t abandon us completely when the new system replacing Sync comes out. If they drop support after just a few years that would send a bad message. It’s not perfect but as long as they keep trying to fix it I can put up with it.

I got 6.8 a couple days ago. Notified of another update tonight. I haven't heard of anything past 6.8.

Maybe that’s true but Ford should’ve thought this thru better. I mean didn’t they learn anything from the Sync 3 debacle?

Phantom update. Had my first one yesterday. Or 6.13 might be coming if you have a Bluecruise truck.
