Good morning fellas, well my oil catch can system from UPR arrived for my 24 F-150 and I ordered the full system with the crankcase breather. I didn’t think to much about it then, but now Im worried that its to cold to use a catch can in my area for the winter… Is there anyone else running catch cans on their 3.5 EB’s? If so how did you insulate the lines and cans? I don’t have a garage or heated garage and its pretty normal for the temp to be below zero for most of the winter. I just don’t want to damage the engine or blow a seal because my lines are frozen. If anyone has any tips or pictures of what they did that would be very helpful thank you.

I installed one, a J&L 3 Oz unit.It works just fine in cold weather. I'm in Western Wyoming. What I've noted is that when the weather turns cold, mid-October to April, it collects alot of liquid. Much of it is watery with a distinct gasoline odor and a very small fraction of oil. It needs to be emptied at least every 500 miles. That's based on it filling up. I have the 3.5L PB Engine.

Do you have the crankcase breather installed as well? Thank you, I may just install it and just pay attention to what the motor and catch cans are doing. Thank you.

No breather. One of those technically violates emissions rules, so be careful which states you drive thru. Without the breather there is no violation. California won't certify the catch cans, even though without a breather it is legit, because they require operator action (to empty the can every so often). You'll be surprised at the amount of "stuff" you will collect in cold weather.

California does not consider a catch can as a violation of emissions rules since (unless a breather is part of it) it does not break the emissions boundary. It simply intercepts fluids along the way. Their issue is simply the owner intervention required part of the picture.

That’s when you need the catch can the most is in the winter months. Especially if you do short drives and oil temp doesn’t get hot enough. Just make sure to check it often enough and empty it

Check it often until you get an idea how much condensate it collects. I would suggest checking every 200-300 miles, adjust from there. I never want mine above 1/2 capacity.

I emptied mine just before Xmas and it was full. Can't remember when before that or how many KMs. Checked it last night, and it was half full. May have gone 300 km, but short drives, 30 minute max. Going to start checking every 2 to 300 km. In the cold weather. You could smell gas in the liquid as well as water also collected.

In 9500km, about 6000 miles, I have collected approximately 4 -5 Oz of crap in my catch can. Since installing it on March 6th of 24.
