Looking for some advice sorry to be long winded,
Driving home 14th of December with about 50 miles range, truck started running rough, at about total 79K miles. Pulled off highway to a gas station where the truck shutdown and threw a large red message, engine shut down now. (don't remember the exact title)
I filled with premium gas and after a few minutes tried to start again. Truck started fine and ran fine the rest of the way home about 40 miles with no codes and no check engine light. Next day driving to North Carolina (about 700 miles) check engine light came on, truck ran fine, mileage normal. Message sent to Ford Pass about emission problem. I took it to Ford dealer in NC and they thought it might be due to bad gas, no charge to reset check engine light and charged me 0$.
Well on the way home, again about 700 miles check engine light came on again, truck ran fine, mileage normal.
Truck now went over 80k miles. I took it into a Ford dealer in Florida where they performed the PCM reset per Recall. After picking it up check engine light came on again, message sent to Ford Pass regarding emission system again. I believe it was code 420 or 430 both times per the dealer. Dealer told me sometimes the PCM reset doesn't work and that both Catalytic Converters need to be replaced at a cost of $3000. I argued it was a recall and Ford should pay, however the dealer stated it was for trucks under 80k miles. I continued the argument, service writer said he'd check and came back with Ford would pay 2/3 and I'd be on the hook for $1k.
So my question is. Since the problem happened under the 80k mileage Ford stipulates, it is documented per Ford Pass and error history, shouldn't they pay for all of it? I tried to find Recall info to research and found very little. Since the recall beens done, nothing shows up for the truck on the NHTSA website.
Thanks in advance. Dave
