Looking for some advice sorry to be long winded,

Driving home 14th of December with about 50 miles range, truck started running rough, at about total 79K miles. Pulled off highway to a gas station where the truck shutdown and threw a large red message, engine shut down now. (don't remember the exact title)

I filled with premium gas and after a few minutes tried to start again. Truck started fine and ran fine the rest of the way home about 40 miles with no codes and no check engine light. Next day driving to North Carolina (about 700 miles) check engine light came on, truck ran fine, mileage normal. Message sent to Ford Pass about emission problem. I took it to Ford dealer in NC and they thought it might be due to bad gas, no charge to reset check engine light and charged me 0$.

Well on the way home, again about 700 miles check engine light came on again, truck ran fine, mileage normal.

Truck now went over 80k miles. I took it into a Ford dealer in Florida where they performed the PCM reset per Recall. After picking it up check engine light came on again, message sent to Ford Pass regarding emission system again. I believe it was code 420 or 430 both times per the dealer. Dealer told me sometimes the PCM reset doesn't work and that both Catalytic Converters need to be replaced at a cost of $3000. I argued it was a recall and Ford should pay, however the dealer stated it was for trucks under 80k miles. I continued the argument, service writer said he'd check and came back with Ford would pay 2/3 and I'd be on the hook for $1k.

So my question is. Since the problem happened under the 80k mileage Ford stipulates, it is documented per Ford Pass and error history, shouldn't they pay for all of it? I tried to find Recall info to research and found very little. Since the recall beens done, nothing shows up for the truck on the NHTSA website.

Thanks in advance. Dave

Interesting scenario with FordPass documenting the code with less than 80K on the clock, which is the magic number for the Federally mandated warranty.

I would think that, with the documentation you have including Ford Pass, stopping at dealers to assess the conditions that led to the error messages before you hit 80,000, you should have a clear path to 100% warranty coverage.

However, I am currently suffering from a logic attack so who knows how Ford will land on this. /s

Just a quick follow up. I've spoken to Ford Customer service twice now on the suggestion of two Ford service managers. I've explained my situation, that I was traveling nd needed some time during my vacation to get it to a dealer for repairs. Both times unequivocal shut down of any further help beyond the 2/3 cost help. So....I guess I'll file a case with the FTC. Not sure if that will go anywhere but I'll post again when/if I hear anything.

You might want to check on aftermarket cats. You can get new ones that are 100% OEM compatible for 2100 from SPD.
