I'm the odd man out I guess. I bought the bed utility package just to get the bed lighting that it turns out I have used twice in two years.
The tailgate step can't be used. (feeble and fat) and I put a hated hard cover on which I'm too cheap to give away because I spent too much money on it.

Lot of 2's in the post. Something in my cornflakes this morning?

Can you use the amp step when the tailgate is down?
Just FYI, pics of my Amp clone (Mitzone) and the OE tailgate step. In this pic:
  • Tailgate Step - 20" from ground; 14" to tailgate
  • 'Amp' Step - 14" from ground; 19" to tailgate
At over 70-years young I'm very happy to have both, use each of them a lot, no 'downside' to either one.

(no apology for dirt / detritus, this is a working truck ;))

Not sure about the dealer but ebay has some around $2000 and you would have tonswap your camera over. I was thinking the same thing this past weekend as mine didnt come with a step either so i went to harbor freight and bought a 2 step step ladder. Works good for me. My plan is some molle panels on tailgate to strap ladder to.
This is my solution as well.

My truck didn't come with the bed utility package. I'm old. I wish I had that step.

If I wasn't worried about price, can the tailgate with the step be ordered complete from the dealership?
That's exactly why I ordered my 24 KR early, because I didn't want the new PAT. If the full tailgate is down with the PAT, there is NO step available. I wonder how many people that were so anxious to get the PAT will have buyer's remorse later?

You might also consider a salvage yard. Possibly you could find one painted the same color and avoid the painting process. Check out multiple model years because they are pretty much interchangeable. Here's a YouTube video of a swap

Here's an alternate option. Problem is the guy never gives a good link, part number or cost of the add-on step he added. It's a big step that fits over the top of your existing tailgate that comes from LimitlessChassis.com.au in Australia.

Here's a place you can get a painted to match OEM tailgate for about $1300

I'm not quite there yet (late 60s) but I sorely miss the OEM tailgate step I had on my '16 Lariat. I traded it on a '21 w/HDPP which is worth the penalty. I've searched for and found color-matched '21 tailgates but can't bring myself to fork over the $1.5K+ cost.

Unfortunately the AMP isnt going to serve the purpose I'd like. I often load dirt bikes and the OEM step would be great for that. It's okay, my 3$ step stool from Aldi's must carry on I guess haha.

wouldn’t the OEM step get in the way of ramps though.. for example?

When loading bikes the ramp is generally set to the left or right just aligned inside the wheel wells. So the center is clear for stepping up. The OEM step is the relatively perfect spot for loading.

Just when I thought I might be the only guy in his 70's that needed a tailgate step, I run across this thread! The main reason that I got the bed utility on my '23 order was for the tailgate step...
