Bought a used Ranch camper shell and it cam ewith ez wheeler clamps (see pic below). The guy I bought it from showed me how to install them. Later found out he had them upside down. Fixed that but still not thrilled with them. They seem to be designed to be fit's all but the top and bottom sort of cam on each other so the jaws don't lay flat.

So, looking for a better option?

I would have gone to the local shell dealer and bought whatever they use. Their clamps are likely to be stronger and less likely to come loose than something sold on Amazon.

actually the ones i got re very strong and not flimsy like the camper shell folks, plus 1/3rd the price
but you have to READ the description and strength rating to get better ones

i ordered these because they have a long reach to get closer to the caps edge at the wall

Thanks for all the replies.
The ones I have are the ones the dealer used so going back to them isn't really an option. As they tighten down they roll and the feet end up on edge.

A couple of you hit the problem on the head. Google and Amazon have so many options you can't really weed through them. When you look at a picture, you have no idea whether it's quality or cheap pot metal. And who knows what chat bot wrote the reviews.

So asking here where you can get inputs on what others haave use seemed the best option.

Spent the last few hours and ended up ordering a set of GCI G-1's. Wasn't sure about fit so I took their dimensional drawing and mocked it up with the 3d printers.

They are made in USA. $6 a clamp. Will post up some side by side picks when they come in.

I read a lot of reviews for various ones working loose. So they need to be tightened periodically.
Is there a reason none of them seem to use lock washers?

I guess you did not read the reviews to the clamps you bought on Amazon. This was posted in April of 2024.

"Wouldn't buy these again, they bend under the force of the cap moving around and fall off. "

My fiberglass cap cost me $3500 and the cost of the mounting clamps is trivial. Not having the shell come off the truck and kill someone is not trivial.

Could you link to that review. I saw no such comment, even went back and searched no reveiw contains the word bend.
