I'm more concerned about the digital dash, navigation, stereo, power inverter and sunroof. Drivetrain too as the transmission sometimes need reprogrammed. Too much electronic stuff to go wrong in my opinionI would never buy an extended warranty on a gas powered truck but would recommend doing so with a diesel engine powered one. Diesel engine injectors can need to be replaced after 50K miles and the cost for a V-8 is more than $4,000.
With a gas engine the problem areas are the transmission and the air conditioning in terms of cost to repair or replace. This is more likely to occur after 10 years and 150K miles unless you are doing heavy towing on a regular basis.
Check the website carcomplaints.com for Ford F-150 model year problems reported to get some idea of what repairs are being made, average cost, and frequency. It can vary greatly by model year and with the F-150 the 2016 year had problems with the engine stalling but the cost of fix was less than $300 so no benefit to having an extended warranty.
the "difference you owed" was $1925?yeah well had to burn some pass points used 80k points ($400.00) $1925.00 diff. Got premium care, 1st day and enhanced rental, and lighting. truck under warranty 'till my 70th b-day then on to probably my last new vehicle........
We get it, you're NOT an extended warranty type of guy.I would never buy an extended warranty on a gas powered truck but would recommend doing so with a diesel engine powered one. Diesel engine injectors can need to be replaced after 50K miles and the cost for a V-8 is more than $4,000.
