Just the opposite in an Ecoboost.Wouldn't increasing RPMs, increase engine Temp? Seems like doing that would be like throwing gas on a fire versus water.
The engine management on an Ecoboost is torque request based. When you press the accelerator, you are doing nothing more than creating a "measured" torque request. Purely digital. The engine management software then goes about meeting the request for X amount of torque.
If you manually lock out gear ratios, you are forcing the torque request to be made using additional rpms, rather than additional boost from the turbos. Boost dumps far more heat into the coolant than rpms does. And in fact rpms increases the coolant flowage of the water pump.
On a 3.5 Ecoboost you will normally witness an almost immediate drop in coolant temps as boost decreases and rpms increase.
It's pretty cool to watch if you have digital temps enabled.
