I have now upgraded my speakers, added. Kicker Key 200.4 amp. I wanted a little more base to I added block off plates and sound deadening mat to all four doors.

When I ran the Key audio setup the eq settings really changed and now I have two much base for my taste. I have a few options, turn down the base using the head unit, or use the crossover setting and add a sub. If I were to add a sub I don’t want to spend a load of money and would go with a powered unit.

Is there a way to get the Key to recalibrate but with a less base? Or should use the crossover settings of the Key and buy a sub?

PS - The system sounded great with the block off plates and sound deadening mat installed but the Key calibrated prior to adding them.

The Key 200.4 has a set of high-pass filters. If you've already adjusted your factory signal EQ settings, I would recommend referencing the manual to change them and test what sounds good to your ear.

I already tried doing that. Even the lowest high-pass filter takes out too much. But I should try again and live with it a few days.

Sounds like you need to reset the amp to factory in order to redo the DSP. Last paragraph in the kicker whitepaper says:

"If you change speakers, move the amplifier to another vehicle, or for any other reason you wish to reset the amplifier, press and hold the setup switch for at least 10 seconds until you hear a low tone. This will clear any DSP settings and you ready to start the setup process again."

Too much bass ??.

Yes, reset the Kicker key to retune and make sure the calibration microphone is where your ears are.

I did reset the amp and recalibrate. That is when the boomy-ness started. Prior to recalibration (e.g. old calibration before block off plates) sounded better. Here is the timeline.

1. Installed Key and calibrated - good
2. Added block off plates and sound deadening but not recalibrating - sounded great
3. Recalibrated after block off plates - boomy base.
4. Enables high-pass filter - too much base removed.

That is far more clear than what I was thinking. Thanks. It sounds like the DSP didn't calibrate correctly after the block-off plates were installed. If you reset to factory with no DSP calibration and turn the high-pass off, what does it sound like?
