So this is something my PPF guy found that I didn't notice until I looked closer. (I picked up the truck right after a decent sized snowstorm) But these black spots are all over the paint on the entire body. They seem to come off if I scrub with a clean towel, but I was looking for an easier way to get all of it off. I'm not sure if there actually is a way besides manualyl scrubbing it off, but I'm not sure what it is. I would guess it's some sort of debris from the railroad. Iron remover didn't work for the PPF guy and they told me they had to use two clay bars just for the front quarter of the truck. I might just pick up some clay bars and go at it slowly if that's the only option.

Any recommendations?

The guy that everyone b*&%ches to at work...
Figures. I'll probably pick up one of those nanoskin autoscrub things. I've heard good things about them.
It almost looks like spray paint from being on an autorack rail car. A good detailer with cutting polish should help.

+1 for Nanoskin. 6" round with backer strap and the small peanut shaped for tight spots. Lasted me years.

That being said, I do think clay is safer. I tend use synthetic clay mitts etc. for maintenance, things I keep up with. If I go 8 months with my wifes car, i'll grab OG clay to really plow the surface and pick up the nasty stuff. Personal preference, while synthetic surely makes the surface smooth to the touch, I just clearly see how clay really removes and traps heavy contaminants.

I'm sure they tried, though you didn't mention - maybe CarPro TarX?

Last resort:
We were down on Bourbon Street day drinking and torrential downpour flooded the streets of New Orleans. Navigating around stalled sedans by way of the neutral ground, drop back onto the avenue to a floating bucket in front of me. With the peanut gallery in the back and external factors, I decide to run over said bucket...filled with paint. I was fu*t. Even though I washed it off after joyriding, paint residue was still everywhere on my black truck.

My saving grace: 3M Specialty Adhesive Remover

I had exactly the same on my truck when picked up, except for me it was white! Granger spent about four hours getting the worst of it off, the detail shop where I had the ceramic applied got the rest. Windshield wiper arms, on the wheels, moonroof, everywhere! Detail guy's guess was either the railcar drove through or was sitting near some industrial painting going on (water tower, railcar, etc) or it was sitting and some taggers were hitting the railcars. I don't think taggers would put up a cloud so thick that every surface was hit. Regardless, it was a PITA for the two shops to finally get cleaned up. And it's still on the plastic surfaces such as the tow mirrors. Shop said no good way to get that cleaned, but he suspects that when summer comes and that hot sun it hitting it, the rapid expansion will get most or all of that to simply pop off. Here's to hoping so!

Yeah I'm kind of annoyed that they didn't pick up on it during PDI. Same with a small cut on the console lid. But it's too late now so I'll just have to handle it myself

Do yourself a favor and spend money on the clay bar you use. Often times synthetic clays are not 'strong' enough to clean off contaminates like this. Try out Meguiars Mirror Glaze in mild. This stuff is great! Pull about a quarter of the bar off or enough to cover your forefingers. Do about a quarter of a panel and re-kneed to a clean surface. Be sure to use a liberal amount of lubrication. This is on of the best clays for severe cleaning like this. It will likely clean the paint after 2-3 passes. Use a water-less wash like Optimum No Rinse (ONR) highly diluted because they are high in lubricants to keep the clay bar from marring/scratching the paint. I use one cap full in 32oz of water. This same dilution will also double as a great as a detail at a fraction of the price!
