One thing I hate on new cars is having to clip your garage door opener to the sun visor or having to had it in your sunglasses holder or center console.
I searched these forums for fixes and I found that you could either add the buttons to your sun visor (which I can’t do easily because mine do not have power run to them) or saw a thread on buying a rear view mirror for older Kia’s and then modifying it to have power run to it.
I liked the latter option but didn’t like the fact that my brand new expensive truck would have the same rear view mirror as a 2007 Kia Sorento. I’ve seen people use the Toyota homelink mirror on other forums but couldn’t find it here so thought I’d buy one on eBay and give it a shot.
I’m happy to report that it was a direct replacement and took no more than 5 minutes to install and sync up with my garage door. All you need is a hex headed screw driver/wrench.
Granted, It was more expensive than the generic Kia option (around $147 as opposed to $50 or so with adapter), but it does give you a bigger and better view out your back window while having the buttons embedded in the bottom. The assembly is battery operated but the battery life is said to last around 10 years, which is good enough for me.
Below are pictures of the assembly installed as well as the part number and item I bought on eBay in case anyone else is interested.
