If you wanna see battery voltage and lots of other things a much cleaner way is get a scangauge. They are simple and low key. I put mine on the dash in the corner. Looks nice and clean.

I may be somewhat old school... But I consider the installation I put in much cleaner, easier to use, and available without any button pushing... I don't try to outthink the computer, I just wanna know what's really happening. Computer readouts in many cases tell you what they want you to know. For me that's not good enough.

So a while ago I noticed that my Auto stop start was no longer working. Took it to ford, they tested my battery and replaced it. Stating it failed a rotunda test. Fast forward today and i'm seeing the same issues. With the battery being only 2 months old I was reluctant to blame the battery but I started monitoring SOC and voltages like a hawk because the ford dealerships around me are horrid (they already said my voltage is "within normal spec.")

Here's a timeline:

Last night battery was at 76% after driving 1hr.

This morning battery is at 60% and 11.8V

Drive 15 min to orielly to test the battery, stop at their lot and im at 68% 12.1v

They test it, found good and recharge. their tester says 62%

Leave there, drive 15 min to Napa, check myself and it says battery is now 59% with 12.3v on the battery

They test it and report 52% SOC battery good an recharge.

Any idea what could be going on here? im at my limit with knowledge on this matter and wondering what the issue could be?


Also I do have a B162F trouble code. There's an SSM for it which dealership has performed at least 3 times which is to reprogram the BCMC module but it doesn't fix it. the B162F is a "VDM circuit open" message. Could this cause a drain or an issue charging?

Same thing has been happening to me. First the stop/start failed to work, then approach lights did not work, then updates started failing to install. Checked the battery and it was good. So I actually changed the battery to another AGM (non OEM) and still have the same issues. I installed a battery monitor and realized that the SOC and standing current fluctuates dramatically. Last night after a long trip the SOC was 91% and 12.7v. This morning the SOC was 67% and 12.5. I never had issues with the OEM battery since new, and now I assume it is something besides the battery. I am stumped and frustrated trying to find the solution. Pic is current reading after sitting overnight.

Yes. I have a PB. The top 2. One is SOC state of charge (percentage of High voltage batt.) that one really helps to maximize battery usage. The other is HBT. Which is the temperature of the battery.

Batteries dont work that way. After returning home, Truck needs to sit for an hour or so for the surface charge to dissipate. Then there is the truck its self. Did you have the key fob with you? It takes roughly 60m for the truck to go to sleep. If you get close enough with the fob to wake it up, Thats good for .3 volts.

Could it be the BMS reporting incorrect readings?

The surface charge dissipates quickly. The 60 minutes is there to ensure all modules have timed out. That 0.3VDC is caused by the current draw of modules awakening. As noted walking by with the key fob or opening a door wakes up some modules.
