I've been holding off on a tonneau and kept coming back to the BAK revolver design but have been hesitant given some of bad reviews around the end caps breaking, freezing, leaking etc. It sounds bad and I'm chuckling that I even gave it a shot but there are also a tremendous amount of positive reviews. Misery loves company I guess, not sure. After having one in my hands I feel like they are brittle, shoddy, and fit for a $450 price-point max. I recorded a quick summary video, worth a gander if you are considering a revolver.

I've had an x4s for two years and received it originally with a broken corner too. I was pissed. I asked them to send me three replacement corners, which they did. The corner pieces have held up since then, but absolutely agree that for ~$1,200 the brittle flimsy corner caps are such a cheapo design. I can't believe they haven't revised that design. It's the #1 complaint on this forum, let alone the other brand forums. About 3 months ago I noticed a crack forming in the cover so I submitted a warranty claim and within a week had a new cover (only) on my front porch, no drama there. My sense is their margin is so high on these covers they'd rather gamble on a proportionately low amount of warranty claims instead of actually improving their design and materials. And for their new product to be covered in manufacturing debris is just sloppy. I did recommend the x4s to a friend of mine, who did buy one for full price, so I guess their business model is working. But, yeah, meh, in general on the BAK products.

Nailed it.

It looks like in certain areas they are regressing. As soon as I began to unroll it I noticed this sticker tilted and laughed wondering how someone could misalign such a prominent sticker. I initially was going to straighten it but it nearly jumped off when I lifted the corner as if it had been there for 10 years baking in the sun.

It reminds me of the sizing stickers you'd find on a pair of jeans, jesh at least make the badge half decent haha. I was told by Real Truck customer service that I'd have a pre-paid shipping slip in the coming days, I'll post how that goes as well. Really hoping I don't have to pay return shipping.

I have a 670 dollar Rugged brand hard folder that never leaks and has no noticeable wear to critical parts so far in 2 years. I was considering upgrading to a Bak x4s just for the convenience of it. But i'm hearing far too many initial quality issues right now for me to be willing to make the jump. It is the perfect concept. Just get the execution down. And no, I'm not that guy who expects it to go through a high pressure carwash without a drop.

Either do something about the fabric delaminating or make it naked aluminum.

Design rail corners that don't fall off or fall apart. Easy, just Do those two things and I'm sold.

If I pay 1k for a cover bits and pieces shouldn't be falling off in 6 months or less. If the Sentry ever gets redesigned to close the tailgate with it down as of right now that's where my money goes next. They don't seem to have as many qc issues.

I found MX4’s for $185 plus $200 shipped to my door lol
Nice! I've had more misses than hits with Alibaba but heck at that price it's worth a shot.

Agreed, the Sentry is sharp. It ended up being the BAK or the Peragon limited HDx with the matte finish but only because they have a solid promo running which would equate to me paying $30 more for it over the BAK X4ts. After seeing the cost cutting that Real Truck apparantly imposes on the tonneau brands they acquire, I'd rather go with something out of that brand portfolio next time anyhow. They haven't acquired Peragon (yet).

Looks like their quality really went down the shitter. I bought the original X4 when it came out and didn't have any issues with it. I almost ordered the X4s this time, glad I didn't

This is why I have trust issues paying $1k or more for a bed cover.

I feel bad for those that buy from these companies thinking or believing they are made here
Yeah, did you catch the MOQ though?

So just order 10 of them and sell the other 9 for $500/ea and you pay negative $.

10 years ago I'd buy anything I could make an easy 20% on. Today you can make 2-300%

This cover is full of surprises. A few of the rivets on the bulkhead mounting hardware are crooked which is somewhat hard to screw up if you've riveted anything. The screws on the plastic latches look like someone used a giant bit for these itty bitty things while also drunk. It's comically bad wow, what garbage.

I did this with a buddy for tail lights on another forum. Shipping from us to the actual buyer was expensive but we were still priced lower than everyone else and still made a few bucks!!!

Yeah, I saw that but there’s other ones to order and you can actually get in touch with the supplier and get get quotes on less then the specific number listed.

I just did it with 21-23 tail lights for ours trucks. Plan is to tint them and resell.

Why I got rid of my Bakflip MX4: yup, horrible QC. Bad rivets, scrappy corner pieces. A mess for $1,200.

Fortunately, I was able to recoup most of it selling to someone who was less concerned than I was about the QC.

Bought BAK Revolver X4S in Oct 2023. All in all had good success until we were driving down the highway at 70 MPH and experienced 40-60 mph crosswinds when the tailgate area lifted up about a foot and broke all the cheap plastic, bent side rails, and the ends extrusion in the rollup section.
Waiting to see how they will "take care" of this after sending examination, pics, video (yes, it was latched down :)).

I’ve got the Peragon HDx in matte black. Love it. Retail is a little pricey at $1400 (when I bought mine)- but it’s easy to get $250 off.

I’ve had mine a little over a year- not completely water tight, but pretty close. Easy to remove as well.

Good to hear, hoping to get mine ordered this week. I’m just waiting on RT to take this back, sent them a ton of pics covering all the nonsense etc.
