I wanted some additional lighting for when I back up in the dark. I was very seriously considering the Putco Blade product, although I`m sure its a great product, I didn`t care for all the additional lights, just the reverse. I was considering some of the bolt on aux lights, but had a feeling the construction sites I am on would certainly take care of them.

Enter the License Plate LED bar. There are a few models out there. I was looking at the Headlight Revolution model and the VLEDs LP parts. All the reviews made the two seem fairly close, the price to ship to Canada tipped the decision matrix. Below are some photos of the product, the install (since its a generic) and the finished product.

I`ll leave a link to the product below, so you can read more about the specs, but the aluminum body of the light gives me some sense of comfort that it will last. I pulled the plate off to find that I would not need to drill another hole in the bumper.

I attempted to source the reverse light feed to the tail light assembly, but the LEDs are trick to figure out with the BLIS, besides the trailer harness is right there. The VLEDS tutorial talks about using the T connector to a ground and the hot line. The ground on the trailer harness is a gauge that will not fit in the supplied connector. I found another factory ground connection point on the drivers side, of the drivers side main frame rail.

I tested the lighting prior to making the connections to both the frame and the trailer harness, everything worked as it should, with no alarms that something is connected to the trailer plug, so I cleaned up all the wiring and tucked it all away. The results are below.

Admittedly, the cover I have on the plate probably has it a little misaligned, but I have driven with it and there is ample amounts of light now.

Before from inside the cab factory reverse lights (tinted front windows):

After ( Yes, I realize without the tint, could see more, but at the end of the day, extra lighting goes a long way).

Once I have a warmer evening I`ll ask for a hand from my wife to take more photos if you folks want.

I know this is a bit of an old thread (almost a year!), but did you ever get any photos from outside?
Also, does this come on with the zone lighting? Or not since you tapped into the trailer wiring?

I have this VLED plate. Works awesome. It does work with Zone Lighting and I am tied into the trailer wiring

Thanks. Does it also come on with the approach lighting (I think that is the name) when you walk up to the truck?
