I finally got around to verifying some of this.

Seatbelt on, no problem, stays in drive or reverse.

Seat belt off, get ready to be shocked! ?

I was only doing 1 or 2 mph but when you open the door the truck goes to park and you stop very suddenly. I'm sure there is a speed that this won't happen but I'm not going to find it, probably in the manual some where but beware.
Well there goes my plan to bring back "Ghost ride the whip" videos.

I wonder if that is a feature than can be turned off with Forscan? Wife's Jeep has this too and it is annoying jockeying cars around on wash day

I’m curious as to what happens if you open the door at speed. Shifting into park at 30-40 miles per hours seems like a good way to mess up the transmission. All because of a stupid fail safe.

I'm sure someone will try it. If they do, they will need to be unbuckled, which further adds to the list of reasons why that person shouldn't be operating a motor vehicle.

I'm guessing there's a speed limiting factor programed in.

I am taking personal pride in being one of only probably 3 or 4 people on this forum to get that reference.

I was planning on doing the Drake "in my feelings" dance next to mine but that is out the window too.

First new truck since 2001 and really can't stand the auto-park feature when opening driver door. Wish i could turn it off like i have for the rear seat occupant warning. Appears that all car manufactures are trying to stupid proof vehicles.

If you go to youtube and see some of the videos the post above are referring to, you'll see that this world is full of stupid people.

Funny, maybe not so funny, story. This was a couple years ago. I was about to pull into one of our garage bays with our Outback and stopped before entering to grab a package off the front porch. I thought I put it in park, because, why wouldn't I before opening the door and walking away. Well, I take three steps and then the car starts rolling very, very, very slowly. Our driveway has a very, very small incline. To my surprise, I was the stupid dumbass we all think are other people. Since the car had made it barely into the garage, I couldn't open the door to get in. I had to run around the pillar into the garage through luckily another bay door that was open and try to open the door once the car was in the garage about six or so feet further than when I exited it. Yet I still couldn't open the door based on objects in its way. Luckily I had left the window down being a nice day and jumped through like one of the Duke brothers from Hazard County and used one hand to push the brake pedal while using the other to shift it to park. You can say adrenaline at max release during this escapade. Yes, I was the dumbass and I was lucky no damage to the car, the house, or anything else.

So about two weeks ago, we go to our storage unit and we had just had the windows tinted on this new truck. Since we couldn't roll down the windows yet, I open the door to enter the code at the gate. After the gate opens, I notice the truck was in park. But I didn't do it. I was like that's weird. So I put it in drive and opened the door and to our shock and laughter, the shifter moved itself into park. At that moment I said to my wife, too bad the Outback doesn't do that, and we laughed. LOL.

Ok, y'all can give me all the shit you want. We can at least laugh about it. :)

Well I won't be giving you shit, I'll join you. I have done the EXACT same thing at a storage unit in my old truck. Felt like a complete dumbass.

Did that once in my 79 Chevy---and it is a manual trans.
Not so lucky--mowed my fence down.

THAT BEING SAID

Over 40 years of driving sticks, it is extremely easy to shut the ignition off BEFORE actually stopping the vehicle. And, this is something I have done since day one of driving a stick.

Not something I have gotten away with in the new one, but I do stop before before shutting it off.
WHY WONT THIS KEY COME OUT????? As the shifter starts doing weird and paranormal activities.

Put it in Neutral

Press the "Manual" button on your shifter.

You're truck will be in " Neutral Mode" and WON'T shift itself back into "park" for 30-min.
?

...and you thought "Christine" was just a Stephen King novel
