Automatic Updates Suddenly Back On

For the past 3 months, my OTA updates have been failing on the 1.7.1 update and my automatic updates button was greyed out and I could not turn it back on. This seems to be a common issue reported on here so I was just trying to sit tight while Ford figured it out.

Today I noticed that I can turn back on my automatic updates. The widget still says my last update was a failed update 3 weeks ago, but something seems to have changed. Anyone else notice this? Hopefully, that means updates are going to be coming soon, and one day I will even get my bluecruise.

Last night my truck was acting weird and the exterior zone lights wouldn’t turn off for about twenty minutes while we were at the park. When I got back I checked the update tab was blue again. Today I checked and the update tab is now grayed out. I didn’t get a notification of any update.

I took mine to dealer and they said they can't update. I've been on 1.7.1 since December and been waiting on Bluecruise as well. I called the OTA team and they said the updates are VIN specific and nothing could be done to push the updates.

After a brief glimmer of hope, my automatic updates are back off. On the widget it has not tried to install the 1.7.1 update since early Feb.

I have found performing a hard reset twice in a row sometimes allows the auto updates to become configurable again, but then it goes back to greyed out eventually. Hard reset is holding power and >>| (track forward) at the same time for 10 seconds.

Sorry for jumping in late here. I'm having similar issues with OTA. The dealer applies the latest (presumably) updates about two months ago. My auto update sliders are still greyed out. Can you elaborate a little on your reset instructions: "power and >>| (track forward)". I don't know what those controls are. Thanks, Jim

Sorry for jumping in late here. I'm having similar issues with OTA. The dealer applies the latest (presumably) updates about two months ago. My auto update sliders are still greyed out. Can you elaborate a little on your reset instructions: "power and >>| (track forward)". I don't know what those controls are. Thanks, Jim

I should add that I'm trying to eliminate a battery problem. My autostart feature stops working about three weeks after I take a long trip. Then starts working again once I take another long trip. I have a battery tender on the way. Battery checked out, according to the dealer.

Battery is bad. Mine did the same. Early build had bad batteries. Not so bad as to not start but not good enough for the BMS to allow auto/start stop to work. SO long trip equals meeting BMS requirements due to state of charge then it dies down and falls out of spec.

I tried everything and then replaced battery and it still works after a year.

Thanks! Looks like a new battery is coming as well. If you felt the need to replace your battery with some "fancy", like a Odyssey, I would be interested in knowing. The amount of electronics on the truck is crazy.

No, I didnt I went with an OE. It has been fine since. It sucked paying when I shouldnt have but dealers refuse unless they can point to a bad battery somehow.

I can help you fix your update page. I can send you files for the APIM. You have to load them on to a USB drive. Let me know if you want to try it.
