Hello all, Just got my 2023 Lariat in last week and I'm thrilled so far. Every vehicle I have ever owned I have had tinted windows. I have normally always tinted the windshield as well. I had a 2019 Lariat with identical tint to the truck I just bought. 45% on windshield, 5% on side windows.

Nevertheless, I am having an issue with my auto headlamps. During the day, no matter how bright my headlights are on at all times. I love the DRL feature during the day but cant seem to get it to work anymore since the windshield tint went on. This never happened with my 19 model and I believe the dimming sensor was in a different place on that model?

Does anyone know where the sensor that controls dimming is? It's affecting my center screen as well which is now always in "night mode blue" instead of daytime white during the day. I thought the sensor was up by the adaptive cruise control module and not on the dash. At least that is what another post in this forum said.

Thanks for the help!

As far as I know, the light sensor on the dash behind the windshield vents. Plays hell with my headlights on the way home from work because the sun is behind me so it goes in and out of shadow a lot.

In the settings you can change your screen to always display day (white) or night (blue) instead of the default auto setting. I changed mine to day as I find the white easier to read when I am driving.

this happens to me pretty freaking often and is quite annoying lmao. i’m going to make the Forscan change where the DRL’s stay on even in the “off” position.

I have 50% on the windshield in both fords with 20% sides, no issues.

I have 50% on the windshield in both fords with 20% sides, no issues. The light sensor shouldn't have been tinted as it's inaccessible from inside the vehicle. Look at the top center of your windshield, you will see the driving assist camera and the smaller thingy is the light sensor.

The thing in the center of the dash behind windshield vent isn't an optical sensor, it's a temp sensor for auto climate.
I’ll take a look at that in the daylight tomorrow - thank you!

I'm about 96% certain it is a "sun load" sensor, which happens to ALSO be tied to the HVAC, but still is also used to control the auto dimming.

Search my posts, you'll find a picture diagram of it. States specifically it's a HVAC temp sensor, and does in-fact control headlights

Ok, well I won't be searching through 364 posts. That's an awfully pompous statement to make to demand someone look for your post for you.

I have this "issue" too and it drives me nuts. Even worse on my wife's Expedition. 2PM, not a cloud in the sky and my headlights come on from the shadow of my own roof if the sun is to the rear. Dash dims then I can barely read anything. Crap design.

That was easy enough -- I blacked out that sensor and the headlights came on @fordhouston

Ford F-150 Auto Headlamp and Auto Dim issue 1673381152605

I run infotainment and android auto in black mode 24/7, and neither the MME nor F150 have issues of false headlight engagement. I keep the brightness turned down as I've got sensitive eyes thus tinting the windshield. I'd notice the night display engagement, yet don't. If clouds are heavy enough in rain, it will turn them on.

F150 has llumar dye tint and the MME has ceramic -- both 50% windshield. No difference.

Sides are 20%. The MME also has 50% over its glass roof, F150 metal roof.
