I just came back from the dealer. I was told need to replace the touch screen module (APIM). The service tech asked if I had the Forscan tool as when they replace it I will loose all my settings I had redone (Example: splash screen).

My question is if I back it up, can I just reload it once it is updated from the dealer?

Depending on when you made the changes, everything will transfer over to the new one as long as your truck has synced the as-built data to the cloud beforehand and it's replaced properly at the dealership.

Funny that they would even ask about you modifying truck from factory settings.

But if not, do I just reload a saved version or do I have to go back and redo all changes?

Newer APIM software has different asbuilt than older software. More lines and might be changes to other lines in the bytes your changes didn't modify. Since they are going to be replacing it then it will likely have an older version of software possibly older than you have currently.

I would plan on redoing your changes on the new APIM to be safe, but that is just me.

No matter what you do be sure to create a new backup copy from the new APIM. If you write over your changes you have something to go back to if it breaks. :)

It's going to depend. If you backup in Forscan just before dropping it off, also check the version of Sync. Once replaced, if the Sync version is the same you may be able to restore without an issue, but I'm not certain. If the Sync version is different, I wouldn't attempt it. The safest option is just going to be redoing any changes manually.
