Anyone else hear this noise? 5.0 knock

Can you guys hear the knock when this starts?

It only happens on cold start.

Normally two knocks quite close together, one louder and then the second one is quieter.

Running 93, fresh 5W-30.

It did it before the oil change but I don’t remember it always happening.

Truck only has 3K miles so it could have been doing it and I may have not noticed it but I doubt it.

I think mine does the same. Never really thought twice about it. For what it’s worth I have 37,000km on mine and no issues.

Usually results when the octane is lower but you have that solved. May be the cooler temps in the NE where you are when first started in the mornings. Do you notice it when restarting after the engine reaches normal operating temperature?

To be completely honest with you, I think it sounds like a ping for a quick second then resolves quickly, I think your PCM is just setting your octane level. I might be totally wrong, I hear a very healthy engine.

If it does that all the time then your dealer should be able to diagnose. It is not internal to the engine.

Mine does the same thing. 20k km on it. I run 91 octane.
