I understand the ECU for the 2023 (and presumably 2024) models have not yet been cracked. But, is it possible to swap in a 2022 ECU and get a tune?

ECUs need in-house cracking on 23s. Unsure how TRON changes things in the 24s. Wouldn't be surprised to see something like a JB4 working on them. FP kits for the 24 5.0s are available and those require a tune. Perhaps soon

Here’s the deal: the 2023 (and likely 2024) F150s have a different ECU setup, and it’s been a tough nut to crack. Even if you toss a 2022 ECU in there, you’re probably looking at a no-go for tuning. The systems are different enough that it’s not just a plug-and-play situation.

Tuning’s tightly locked down on the newer models, so while you might get the ECU physically swapped, the software and tuning capabilities might still be out of reach. Best bet? Stick with the latest ECU and see if any new tuning options come up as more aftermarket solutions hit the market. It’s a pain, but it’s all about staying patient or getting creative with the current setup.

EDIT: JUST realized this is for the Ecoboost, lol. Yeah don't expect tuning anytime soon. The only hope I have for the '24 guys is that there's significantly more people buying/modding f150s/mustangs than broncos; so more eyes on the problem can hopefully come to a solution quicker. /Edit

Thanks to the switch in encryption similar to the 2020 Bronco; no custom tuning is available for the 24 f150s/mustangs. It still isn't available for the bronco four years later either.

As of now, no, you can't swap ECUs on 24s with previous years. That method works on 23 models with 21-22 ECUs.

Whipple and soon Roush have worked with Ford to allow their superchargers on these platforms. Whipple has cal files for their stage 1/2 kits, smaller pulleys, and different fuel mixes maxing at e30 blend. Their stage 2 kit comes with gt500 injectors and that's all Ford allows them as far as fuel goes. But it's still conservative apparently. I've seen as high as 902whp (@ROA on TikTok who's selling it) in a s650 and 1045whp from a darkhorse (Evolution Performance). Whipple/Roush aren't allowed to custom tune your cal file and I don't think they can even if they wanted to.

I sent an email to the good folks at MPT and GooseTuned last night. Here's their response:

MPT: "Our PCM swap approach with the 2023 trucks may likely work with a 2024, but we have yet to test that on a 2024 truck here in person."

GooseTuned: "There is currently no support for 24, not even with a swap unfortunately."

I'm very impressed by the quick response of these two reputable tuners. I would do business with either one in a heartbeat!

Hopefully, someone will crack the new ECU's and open up the possibility of a tune. I just need to be patient and wait (ugh!).

Don't count on ECU swaps working. Encrypted busses prevents this. The encryption significantly complicates things and there is no workaround for it. The factory ECU would need to shipped off and be cracked.

This isn't like typical code encryption, the ecu communicates with every other critical module using encryption for which only ford has the keys. You can't take a random ECU and swap in as nothing can talk to it without the shared key.
