I recently added XLT 302a heated seats to my 301a. Before I did this, I searched a lot to see if there were any how-to write ups and I could not find anything for only heated seats so I thought I would post how I did mine. This is a big Job, very time consuming but it is not impossible.
Parts:
You will need 2 of each heating pads. They were $130 from FairwayFord.com
x2 Seat Cushion Heater ml3z14d696h
x2 Seat Back Heater ml3z14d696a
HVAC Control Module with the heated seat buttons
ML3T18C612BE I got one off of eBay for $105
Connectors to plug into the heating pads.
x2 3U2Z-14S411-BUB
x2 3U2Z-14S411-LAB I ended up finding a used rear heated seat harness off of eBay for 2 of these connectors the other two I bought these. https://www.ebay.com/itm/365153296613 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/234364913375 it was around $80 for the connectors.
Terminal Pins
I do not have the part numbers for the terminal pins. If someone wants to chime in, feel free. You will need 2 different sizes for the plug in on the HVAC module and another size to get power for the HVAC module with connector C265. I bought a used front seat harness MU5T14D230 from eBay for $40 and de-pinned the terminals I needed and soldered the wire leads to the new harness. This worked out pretty good as there are a lot of different sized pins in this harness and I will have a lot of terminals leads for future projects. This will be a 6 wire 22 or 20ga harness that will go from the back of the HVAC connector C228B and split off to each seat like a T shape. This is a crude drawing I made up of the harness and a picture of the harness. 4 of the 6 wires are pinned. One of the other 2 is a ground. I attached this to a factory ground point behind the HVAC module. The other wire is a signal wire. I used a quick wire tap connecter and spliced it in to wire 2 on the C228A connector. The other end of the harness are connectors for the heated seat pads. I chose to plug directly into the heating pads because I didn't feel like the extra time to run the harness to the underseat connectors C311 and C312 was worth it. However, maybe I will do this at a later date for more of a factory look.
The next harness I forgot to take a picture of. It supplies power to the HVAC module which supplies the power to the seats. I pinned two short 14ga wires into the back of connector C228B and spliced them into one wire that ran to pin 31 on the C265 connector way up under the dash on the passenger side. This is a constant 12V source, not keyed. Depending on the configuration of your truck, you could have different "extra" pins to use for power. Pin 30 and 31 are used for the AC power converter that my truck did not have so these a were open. I could not source the correct terminal for this. If someone knows please let me know. For now, I’m using a regular old female connector and it seems to be the correct width as it is a pretty tight fit. It just doesn’t lock into the connector.
Then there are the Forscan changes. My module was used so it already had programing on it. Save your old HVAC module data before you remove it and don’t load your saved profile with Forscan with your new module. Compare the two modules to determine what you need to change. I used the HVAC tab on Livinitups spread sheet. I had to change the engine as mine is a diesel and changed for leather seats. I added them the same time I added the heating pads.
That is it. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do this, it is just what I did and maybe it will help someone else. Like I said it is a big project. I had all the seats out and the dash tore apart for several days. I read a lot of posts form HammaMan about adding heated and cooled seats and there is some good info in this thread. https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/2022-f-150-heated-and-cooled-seats-oem-conversion.14749/
