Seems like you know what you're talking about. I just purchased a '23 f150 lariat with heated steering removed. If i purchase the heated steering wheel + module + sccm, will I need a wiring harness as well or do the Lariats already have the wiring harness? Do Lariats have the same issues with the heated steering not working once installed?
It’s all just programming and parts so whether or not it works in different trims levels depends on quality of parts used and installation issues. Unfortunately, if the heated wheel was deleted, I’m not sure if ford completely removed everything to do with the heated steering wheel or if they left the programming out due to a missing piece. You could purchase the wheel, the SCCM and harness to the bcm, tear your truck apart and compare what parts are there or not. Does that make sense? I know it was usually just a chip shortage issue, so I’m not sure how ‘deleted’ the truck is.

if it's just a chip shortage, what would be needed to activate it?

There are modules you have to program using FORscan. You have to tell the truck that the heated steering wheel is now installed. This link has all the options you’ll need to activate it using FORscan. You just need to identify what your truck doesn’t have and what it needs for it to work. It would be a Steering wheel, SCCM (clock spring) I believe a harness to go from BCM to SCCM. You can put a button on the Radio screen to activate.

If you reference the link in the OP’s post it gives you a step by step procedure how to do it. It’s for an xlt but it’s the same procedure.
