502A digital gauge cluster crashes

Folks - i have a 2021 lariat with the digital gauge cluster. It’s crashed on me twice in the last ~month-ish while driving. Screen goes black.
Called my local dealer and said if it continues to happen i should bring it in but often they have a hardtime diagnosing these. Which makes sense since its probably a SW issue but its still unnerving having your speedometer go black.

anyone else seeing this; and, were you able to get it addressed?

With your VIN, I can pull any DTC's your truck is recording and see if anything there helps to pin-point the problem.

Does the infotainment screen black out as well?

I used to have this problem when I first got the truck and had no updates applied. But it would only happen in a certain area (by an airport of all places).

Seemly fixed itself after a few updates and getting a new phone.

You're not alone Chris... Same truck and same issue here. I'm hoping its just a bug in a software update and will be resolved soon.

Hey @people-call-me-chris. Just wanted to update you on my recent discoveries. I figured out that ANY phone calls with my wife while I was driving would trigger this gauge cluster black out. After doing some searching I found this thread on the other forum: https://www.f150forum.com/f129/blacked-out-gauge-cluster-508293/

It turns out that sync has a big problem with emojis and sure enough, my wife's contact has a heart emoji next to her name. I have removed the emoji from her name and will delete and reconnect my phone on the sync system. I'll keep you posted on the results.?

This is great thank you! Funny enough - I realized last week, that every time my wife calls me, it crashes. So I had got that far... but had no idea why. She also has emoji in my iphone contacts for her. Hilarious.

on a side-note, I called my local PHX ford dealership to cancel my service appointment and told them about this. According to the service dept., Ford knows about this...but the "work-around" for now is to get rid of the emoji's haha. Sorry wife, no more heart emoji for you.

What's interesting to me is I've owned my truck since October 2022 and never experienced this issue until May 2023. My wife's contact has had the same heart emoji for a few years. This leads me to believe that the bug was introduced in a sync update released during Spring which should be simple to track down.

I'll keep this thread updated but it's been a couple days since the heart emoji sacrifice and so far my cluster is crash free! ?

Im having same issues, no emojis and no phone calls it just keeps resetting on me. All I do is listen to podcast and play music
