I've got a 2022 Lariat SCREW 3.5 Ecoboost with 3.31 gears for reference. All runs in Auto 4WD
Been running the JB4 since I got the truck back in August, with fuels ranging from 91octane to full e85. This is for those that are between using a piggyback that is easily removable and easy to switch maps with, vs full flash tuning that is somewhat of a pain.
I finally got my 5 star tunes after a bunch of back and forth figuring out issues with my initial tunes. Something to do with some wrong tables on my strategy code that 5 star needed SCT to address. 5 Star was great and was very responsive and kept me in the loop with the issues they were having.
The flashing process is my biggest gripe with it. Have to go under the hood, similar to the LMS tune, and flash directly to the ECU. Wish there was a way to flash from the OBDII, but right now there isnt unless you go Cobb and send them your ECU. This is where the JB4 shines, especially with the bluetooth adapter. Switching maps is easy, creating custom boost curves is easy, logging is easy. Just dont get the tranny tuning or limiter removed (my limiter is right around 102mph so it really limits your 1/4 mile times.)
Currently running a 91 performance tune. Will be working my way up to the e30 then e50 tunes as i get through this tank of gas.
after a couple days, i can already tell a big improvement over using the JB4 only. And that big improvement is almost all in the tranny. With the JB4, since you cant tune the tranny, shifting was rough 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, Im guessing it had something to do with the torque management system.
Dragy results
0-60 JB4 - Low 5s. 5 Star - Mid 4s. I was in the low 5s on 91, regardless of where I was shifting. Ive only done 2 dragy runs with the 5star so far, but even with not hitting the correct shift points, running mid 4s.
1/8 mile - JB4 8.8 to 8.9 @75-80mph with 2.1-2.2 60ft and ~5.8 330ft. 5star only 1 run, but 8.2 @85mph with a 1.8 60ft and 5.3 330ft.
1/4 - JB4 was pretty consistently in the 14-14.1 range, but would bounce off the speed limiter so couldnt tell you an accurate time. The one run i did with the 5star, ran out of room to be going 100+ so let off towards the end, but finished at 13.2 @101mph Update: Was able to work my way down to 12.97 w/ 1.8 60ft and 8.2 1/8 mile. Had to adjust launch rpm, as I was building too much boost and the truck wouldnt hook up well.
Overall, pretty pleased with the 5 star tune so far. IMO, from a dig, it is significantly better than the JB4. Once youre moving, and in the 50-100mph range, still a slight improvement, but if thats where you want the speed and power, and dont want to go the flash route, JB4 might be the way to go for you. Over the next few months, I'll be messing around with the stock 5 star tunes and doing some of my own as well and will post updates as I get them.
