So, I have been battling a problem for a while now and thought I should see if anyone else has faced this same issue. I cannot get the 360 camera images to line up properly. The side cameras images are not in line with the front and rear. I have tried a long list of things to fix this issue. I’ll try to be brief.
  • Tried used the 360 alignment tool in Forscan
  • Tried with the 360 alignment tool in FDRS
  • Reset the learned values in the IPMA and ran the IPMA Alignment and the 360 Calibration in FDRS.
  • Used FDRS to PMI the module as a new module (pulling the data from Ford). Ran both calibrations. Cameras still not aligned.
  • I also viewed the IPMA data in Forscan and compared it to the as-built data from when the truck was a month old. I do not see any issues in the data.
The odd thing that I keep experiencing is that after I run the 360 calibration, it will not run properly a second time. And, it is not always the same issue that prevents it from running. Sometimes the test status will not appear on the nav screen. Other times the test status on the nav screen reads “100%” from the start of the test. Sometimes the steering and speed inputs on the screen are not working. E.g., I can turn the steering wheel and the wheel indicator on the test screen does not recognize that I and not going straight. I have also seen where the test status screen will just close part way through the test. I have only had it run once after an initial test and when that run completed, it said no cameras were updated but that the test was successful.

Up until I did the PMI, I also had the DTC P1578:78. After the PMI and the two calibrations, the code went away, but the cameras are still out of alignment. FDRS says to run the 360 Camera alignment tool as many times as necessary until the images align. I would do that, if it would run a second time without issues. I’m stumped and open to suggestions.

@Jesse-Infotainment might have some insight on it when they have time to check in here.

I have noticed for no reason at all my 360 camera are slightly off now but not enough to bother me yet.

Sorry I can’t respond more helpfully but wondering why you had to calibrate at all? If you did a mirror swap I think the 21-23 are different than 24 so maybe that’s what’s going on. Just a thought.

I swapped out tow mirrors on my ‘22 and didn’t have to do anything but plug them in and bolt them down.

Good luck, I’m sure folks here will be able to help you sort thru it.

Swap from standard to tow or other way would need calibration or the 360 view will look weird on the stitch. Some just get off calibration or were never right to start. Hard to describe without the pics in other threads of how bad it can be.

I removed my tow mirrors and went to standard mirrors. The images did not align after the mirror swap. After running the 360 alignment, they got even worse. They are significantly off.

Boy now I’m afraid to pay that much attention to mine! I did a battery disconnect prior to the swap but didn’t do any calibration whatsoever.

I have tried reaching out to Jesse and I know he is really busy. He helps a lot of people here and has helped me a couple of times. I was hoping I might find someone that had the same issue and found a solution without troubling him. Plus, if the answer can gets posted here, others with this problem may benefit as well.

I see, was the battery not disconnected or did this alignment issue happen in spite of disconnect?

If it isn't broke don't fix it. :)

It is related to the different mirrors. The cameras are in different locations on the two types of mirrors. It appears my issue is something in the IPMA. The system should be able to make adjustments using the data from the 360 calibration test, but it is not working as it should. The 360 test is simple. I have run it on other trucks with no issues.

I appreciate that, thanks! Since I’ve done the swap I’m aware of the difference in placement/angle of the camera but didn’t realize the stuff the images are sent to/combined on knew the difference, so to speak. If that makes sense. Speaking to you like a dumb farm kid, which isn’t far from the truth lol! I need to look closer at my own. I swapped over a year ago so obviously I’m not paying too close of attention to it. Still prefer my mirrors like an old coot.

Now you'll never unsee it.

As they said it usually is a straightforward process. Forscan can't run it anymore with the software changing on IPMA. FDRS must be used and usually it works in a parking lot easily. At least from what I've read it is easy. 5.0Screw22 just has some weird issues going on.

@5.0Screw22 you are using a Mongoose cable correct and not some knockoff?

I am using a Mongoose cable with FDRS. When I use Forscan I use a OBDLink MX+ or the Mongoose cable. I don't think this is a cable issue.

I waited 24 hours and tried the calibration again. I was hoping with some drive time and some vehicle sleep time, something might change and allow me to run the calibration again. It did not work. When I tried to run the calibration, it showed the test at 100% from the start. I closed it and tried again, and had the same 100% on the screen. I ran it anyway and it said it was successful, but the image stitching did not change at all. Here some images of the problem. The first image shows the screen at the start of the test. It shows 100% complete at the start of the test.

Just a quick update on this problem. I have tried using a new laptop for FRDS. I also purchased another IPMA. Neither of those changes has resolved the problem. I was still not able to get the cameras aligned. I plan to install my original IPMA (w/o APA) that came with the truck and see if I am able to align the cameras with that module installed.
