Hey everyone, I have a 2021 F150 4X4 that is having some weird noises. I'm pretty familiar with the IWE grind, as my 2018 experienced it, but this seems slightly different.

-Usually present with the first drive of the day, its not a grinding sound, more of a moaning/rubbing sound
-Still present in 4A, doesn't just go away if I make the switch
-Most complaints on here are temp related, this does it in all climates and doesn't seem to be affected one way or another
-Cruise control, highway speeds (70) I can almost FEEL/ HEAR ever so slightly a humming type rhythm... and its cyclic so I'll do my best to explain it. It's like every few seconds I can hear and feel the truck making the slightest noise/vibration. If I had to just make a random guess it would be bearings or wheel related.

Any ideas?

I would check the front differential.

Mine was making a weird sound. Thought it was the IWE.

My noise would never go away even in 4H.

Drained the front differential and there was lots of metal in the fluid. Save the fluid that comes out if there is metal in it. I gave the old fluid to the dealer and it helped speed up the diagnostic and warranty claim.

They rebuild the front differential and no more sound.

Wow, that’s very similar to my symptoms I need to check that asap. I’m at 59k miles. Did your noise stay consistent or did it seem to go away after driving a little? The same speed I hear it leaving my neighborhood I do not hear it when returning if that makes sense.

It’s been awhile but I think I could hear it more when the fluid was cold at low speeds but it was always there while driving down the road.

I had front pinion seal replaced recently, that would require a diff drain right? But now you rely on a tech to notice a problem if there was one.

Not necessarily.

They might have just topped it off if any came out.

Do you have the work order might say.

Probably the same process or close.
I threw it away recently which I shouldn’t have but I do seem to recall it being topped off vice fully drained and filled. I’m dreading this trip to the dealer it’s such a logistics nightmare leaving my truck when loaners don’t seem to exist anymore. How long did your repair take?

Yeah it’s a nightmare when it’s down and they don’t offer a loaner or rental.

It was down for 3 weeks unfortunately 👎

Not sure what the hold up was but they have to figure out what is wrong and if it’s under warranty then they have to get approval so that takes time.

I had it narrowed down pretty good to what the issue was.

Check your powertrain warranty before you go so you know if that’s an option or not.

I usually show up in my flight suit, that sometimes helps if there’s any arguments. I hate that this actually works and I usually am going in after a work day :cwl:

Had the manager ride with me today. Ashamed to admit, but it’s my tires. He knew almost instantly on a smooth road that my tires were cupping. I feel so dumb but relieved.

Crazy

Lesson learned and glad it wasn’t anything worse.

So new tires and an alignment in your future?
