Hey guys, I have a new to me 2021 XLT 3.5 Sport with 14K on it. Most of the time when I'm driving I'm in ECO mode. I keep getting this kind of clunk, or thump. It kinda sounds like it is coming from the back, but I'm not sure. Usually happens when I come to a stop and really almost always if I'm stopping on a grade pointing downhill. I took it into the dealer and they said they "re-porgramed" the transmission. The tech said that "since you bought it used, the transmission learned how the PO drove and now it needs to learn how you drive." Anyway, it's still doing the same thing. Is this normal? I mean is this just how the F-150 sounds? Not sure what I should do.

Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I’d like to look into this concern on my end.

Ditto what Fozzie438 said, mines about 25k mi and when I'm going down the hill to a stop, it makes a clunking sound and feel, albeit its near the end of my stop, so its a slow 5-10 mph when it happens.

It also does not happen every single time, I wouldn't even say it's often, it's been doing it since new. But it does make me wonder if it's something that will become a real problem. I almost feel like its a transmission grabbing first gear with an "awkward" shift (to pick a word)...

Mine does the same(40k mi), to me it feels like my rear end is unloading causing the sound. I have had it happen during a downshift and it has also done it when slowing down but the truck not downshifting.

I replied to the Ford Motor Company post via private message. I provided them with all the inforation and history. To my surprise, I got a call from someone from the public relations department of Ford. They again asked me for the information, which I again provided. They then gave me a case number and asked if I needed any help with paying for repairs or coordinating service or getting parts. I told them that my truck is still under warranty so I don't think so. She then told me to contact my dealer and have them go over the issue again, and to her know if I have any problems or need any assistance.

I requested an appointment at my local dealer for service, but haven't heard back from them. I will post any updates on this thread as they happen.

I would suggest that any of you that have this same issue, send a private message to the Ford Motor Company. You can find there profile in the top of this thread. Let them know you are having the issue. Don't know what they will do, but at least it might draw attention to a recurring issue.

- - - - - UPDATE- - - -
I took the truck in to the dealer. They told me that the tech checked out the entire drive line, including the drive shaft and determined that the transmission needed a software upgrade. The Service Advisor explained that Ford had sent them a "New" upgrade and that it was installed. He said they drove it and it was "shifting like butter". (The initial problem was a "Thunk" sound when coming to a stop on a grade, not shifting problems)

I will drive it and see how it feels and sounds and post an update here. The service advisor told me that if the issue comes back or continues, then the next step is to "tear into the transmission" starting with an inspection of the valves. (I'm not thrilled about that prospect).

I find it interesting that the first time I brought it into them, I was told essentially the same thing, "we flashed the software and reset the transmission". Although in this second visit they said they actually installed a "New" software package, so we will see.

On another note: I also asked them to check on my front passenger side window, since it always drops down about four inches when rolled up. I followed the re-set calibration on it probably twenty times and it still does it. When I picked up my truck, I verified they had looked at it, and the service advisor told me it was fixed. Well, went to my truck and rolled down the window, rolled it up and....dropped down four inches. The service advisor came out, tried it half a dozen times and told me to drop off the truck so they could "fix" it. Just saying.... What else is "fixed" but not fixed?
