I have been searching for information regarding the Powerboost and the difference between that and the normal ICE models. I am an engineer and wanted to understand what is different under the hood, the type generator/alternator it has, what the extra equipment and wires are on the passenger side of the engine. The Owner's Manual doesn't even have the word "Powerboost" in it. There are a few differences listed under "Hybrid" but nothing really specific. Youtube videos I found so far are useless. Searching Powerboost on our forum was not fruitful.

Maybe it is staring me in the face, but if any of you can provide some links on what makes the Powerboost tick I sure would appreciate it. I have a 2024 coming to Granger at the end of September and would like to have some knowledge base before I press the start button the first time (yes, I found that the engine may not fire up and the dash can say READY).

Thanks in advance.

I can't remember all of the exact details, but there's a belt driven starter on the engine that fires up the ICE each time it's needed. There's a 30hp motor/generator sandwiched in between the transmission and ICE. There's a inverter under the hood, and a inverter back underneath the bed for the HV battery to be capable to power the bed outlets, up to 7200w. The base generator is 2400 w. The engine will cycle on and off, but the electric motor always boosts for power and economy. There is a learning curve when driving this if you want to get the most economy, 64 MPH is the best highway speed for fuel economy, any faster and you're going to drop MPGs. Mixed city driving you'll get 24-27 MPGs, HWY you'll get anywhere from 22 to 27, depending on the variables, it does not like wind, even crosswind will kill your MPG. This thing is amazing once you learn how to drive it, and being able to idle with the ICE off is my favorite function, it comes in handy when you're in stop and go traffic, by the way you can set the cruise and in stop and go traffic it will stop for you, it is so much more peaceful being in traffic knowing you're not burning gas and you're not really having to do much. My terminology for the electric inverters, converter, maybe a little bit mixed up but that's the major gist of the system. Oh and by the way there is a traditional starter, but I've only heard mine crank the traditional way twice over the last 3 years. It will do this if your batteries are low. Also you have two 12 volt batteries, one under the hood, one under the back seat. The small one under the back seat is mainly for startup modules and any backup modules that they need for the system to function, people have had many issues with their trucks throwing codes if one of these batteries are low. In the rare case that you need to charge your battery you need to place the terminal after the BMS on the battery under the hood. Hope this helps, I'm sure I forgot some things. Oh, and you're going to love the power, unless your previous vehicle was a Raptor R or Lightning.

Ziggy, Tripdaddy, thank you both. The PowerBoost graphic and video are just what I needed. Definitely great information. There does not seem to be many PowerBoosts in the North TX area compared to dealers in other states that have up to 25% of their F150 inventory as hybrids. I did find one this morning and finally got to drive a PowerBoost. Very seamless transition between all the modes. Glad I changed my order to the PowerBoost.

Actually the BISG (belt driven starter) was dropped in the 2024 Powerboost.

And interestingly that leaves the 3.5 Ecoboost in the Powerboost with only 1 belt! (water pump)
