I am comparing the 2024 XLT crew cab specs with style side 5.5 bed for 2wd vs 4wd. Ground clearance is 8.5 vs 9.4“. 0.9” difference. But cab height is 75.6 vs 77.2. Open tail gate height is 32.9 vs 34.9”

Seems odd that the difference in height isn’t the same, or very close to the same, for all three vehicle features. The 1.5” increased cab height might be important in some parking garages. The 2” difference in tailgate height will likely make it harder to lift heavy objects into and out of the bed.

Am I reading and understanding these dimensions correctly ?

I'm guessing ground clearance is measured at the lowest point (potentially the front but who knows), and the difference at the tailgate that you're reading could be due to a number of things (weight, tow packages, etc), since they are raked, the difference in between those points (e.g the cab) would have a difference somewhere between the two extremes.

1.6” difference in cab height, but still very different from the other two height measurements

4x4 trucks have a rear lift block that 2wd trucks don't. That is why the rear height dimensions have a greater delta vs the cab height dimensions, also depends on what package you get and motor for front spring rate. Regardless, I wouldn't fixate on those numbers Ford specs out, the as built is not perfect to those numbers. 4x4 trucks also come with taller tires, that is the difference in ground clearance.

Can anyone confirm that when they say ground clearance the universal meaning is lowest point ? Lay the Control arms ?

2WD could come with 32" tires and 4WD come with 33", that's .5" additional GC and height. 4wd also have 1" rear lift blocks.

retired!
4wd also have 1" rear lift blocks.
Just FYI, the Workshop Manual shows 3 spacer block versions (without providing thickness specs):
Ford F-150 2024 height specs seem conflicting when comparing 2wd and 4wd WSM BLOCK 02

FWIW, my OE blocks (now removed) appear to be type #1 (no 'lug / stud' on the end) and measure 1.25" thick with no taper.

Methinks there's lots of things (springs, tires, spacer blocks, weight of total options, etc) that contribute to differences in clearances / heights wherever those are measured, and the published 'specs' are 'general' and may not be consistent because it's not practical to cover all of the possible variations.

Bottom Ine, IMO, in terms of clearances and heights ya get what ya get on a VIN-specific basis and work from there with mods if you want. YMMV.

Thanks everyone for the education and help. Will probably pull out the rear lift blocks to lower the tailgate a smidge.
