Almost sounds like the vehicle(s) were in the middle of an OTA update that precluded you from being able to drive them. There are OTA updates that will immobilize the vehicle until they are done, but I was under the impression that you had to kick those off manually.

Some OTA's require the truck not to be driven at the time of updating. The lock/unlock is something to do with this OTA. Once the locks have been resynced to the truck, they should work fine.

This same thing happened to me last night. 2024 Lariat PB. Started the truck from the phone app. As I neared the truck with the fob the lights flashed, but would not unlock. Tried the button on the fob and the door keypad code, neither worked. I had to unlock the door with the physical key. The lock and unlock buttons inside on the door did not work after I got in and hit the start button. When I parked after I drove for a bit, they still did not work. I tried the second key fob with no success.

I came back to the vehicle about a half hour later and everything was fine. It also worked normally this morning.

I've had the truck for 3 months and this is the first time this has happened.

These intermittent issues are definitely the worst, as OP mentioned.

I have not received the update mentioned above and there are no updates pending.

I'm concerned with the ability to use the door keypad in the event that I purposely lock the keys inside. If this were to happen then, I would really be in trouble.

That's part of the reason they give us two key fobs when we buy a new vehcile ... :)

Gluestick,
Buy a third key fob on internet that matches your two existing ones (be sure to match FCCID number to ensure the proper frequency). Get the blade cut at a dealer or locksmith or even potentially hardware store as required. Programming a third key fob when you have two existing ones is in the owners manual and you can do it in a few minutes in the driveway for free. But a magnetic key box and wrap this fob in foil inside the magnet box, then hide it somewhere on the outside of the truck underneath. You then also have a spare fob in case you lose one of the originals and won’t have to spend several hundred dollars at the dealership getting a new fob made and installed to the truck’s computer. Total cost above can be under $50.

The exact same thing happened to me tonight. 2024 Lariat PB. Did you contact the dealership on this issue or is there a fix? Definitely annoying 3 months into owning a $78k truck.

I have not contacted the dealer. This issue has only occurred the one time I posted in mid-December. I don't know of any fix other than to the use the physical key to get in and wait until it clears, as I and others have done... I'd be interested in anyone else that may have a possible fix to try.

Did your return to working normally after 20 to 30 minutes?

Mine just did this to me tonight after work and nothing but the manual key would work. Hour later and all works again.

Happened to me today @ 2000 miles on my 2024 XL RCSB. It worked fine this morning but when I got home from work it wouldn’t lock.

I have a 2024 King Ranch - about 4,000 miles on it and doors not opening happened a few days ago. Called the dealer and they said several others have had the same issue. They thought it might be caused by an update?? - or bad battery in the fob, not so sure either is the cause. The hard key worked and issue has not happened again - so far!

I took mine to the dealer and they said it needed a door module update. I imagine they updated via FDRS.

This exact thing happened to me as well... 1 hour later after having called roadside assistance the locks started working again.

Just took it to the dealer today for maintenance and they said there isn't any update for them to install??? Would you happen to have the update number?

I have had the following issue twice now. I go to unlock my '24 STX with the remote key fob and nothing happens. The truck doesn't respond to the button presses at all. So I use the Ford Pass app on my phone and I can hear the truck "wake up" and unlock the doors. Immediately after that happens, I can use my key fob like normal to both lock and unlock the doors. Just to be clear, I want to clarify that I have the old school switchblade key and not the fancy proximity fob. I would like to know how to troubleshoot this myself. Since I am not able to replicate the issue there is no reason to take it in to the dealer.

Try these:

Make sure fobs not near cell phone (EMI). Try both fobs. Replace battery in fob. Charge the truck 12 V battery with charger hooking up negative outside the BMS sensor (e.g. hook it to body ground). Replce 12 V H6 battery in truck with H8 size and reset BMS.

OK thanks. Next step I will upgrade to H8 and reset BMS.
