I don't think that was intentional, despite the claims. That is very likely to have started under the dash, as smoke came out the HVAC first. Anything from a pinched wire, to a pin pulling loose from a connector, to poor quality could cause that. I found a few wires on my new 2024 that were pinched under the tailgate trim, against the metal. Could cause a short after chafing for a bit.

We had 2 helicopters that experienced wiring harness fires. One was a production issue and was a simple repair. The other was due to deteriorating Kapton insulation causing a short from a 'hot' wire (+28v) to the shielding, inside the wire bundle. That was a multi month long repair.

Disconnect the battery to stop an electrical fire.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
Isn't the PowerBoost battery mounted maybe behind the transmission?

Since it's not a PB, then I'm inclined to agree with those who suggested it may have been intentionally started. While watching, you can't help but wonder why on earth the owner would vent the fire by opening and leaving open the doors. I did give props to the windshield wipers and their final death swipe on a missing windshield.
If I was the owner I would have opened all doors and retrieved my gas can from the garage. One does not want that truck after any sort of fire, no matter how small.

You guys realize insurance fraud has quite hefty consequences, yeah? F-150 resale value isn't super low like some other vehicles either, it makes no sense to do this intentionally. Bummer for the owner for sure.

If this was a fire due to the hybrid battery, I’m sure as you know, thermal runaway, there no disconnecting it. It’s already on meltdown.

So true. Your post was a deja vu moment for me - 1999, HNZ flight out of New Plymouth NZ enroute to our rig, exact same problem. Nothing like an in-flight smoke-filled cockpit to capture your attention. Luckily no ocean ditch, returned to base OK. Calmest, most professional pilot response I've ever experienced in a bad situation.

It seems odd to me to jump to the conclusion that this was intentional, and I hope he isn't reading this thread. This seems unlikely to be intentional based on the fact that the video was posted. Having doors open or closed likely wouldn't make much difference especially if it started in the engine bay. He was probably opening the doors to first see if there was anything he needed to get out. Although he probably wasn't doing his best thinking at that time, maybe he was also concerned about an explosion and blowing glass everywhere.
